I really need to practice my enhancements but I don't have many models to work on. I bought a nail trainer but the nails kept popping out. So I bought a practice nail from ebay but the tips won't stick. Should I bother getting one of those rubber hands or should I just try to practice on myself? Please help I'm running out of time and options.

Stick with your nail trainer. the nails should not pop out and if they do it is because you are not clicking them into place hard enough. You should hear 2-3 clicks and then you know it is in the housing firmly.

If you bought your nail trainer from, shall we say, a dubious source such as ebay then you were had by the seller.

The nail trainer is the closest thing to real life there is and there is not a better training tool around.

I bought it from beauty express. It has nothing to do with me not pushing hard enough. The nails would click 3 times but then click again and pop out. No matter how hard I tried they would still pop out. The hand has been sent back. Are the rubber hands rubbish then?

If the nail beds become dislodged from the nail trainer when filing (after hearing the clicks) then that is usually an indication that you are filing WAY too hard and too vigorously ... they are actually designed to come out so that you are alerted to that. If you filed like that on a person they might be running for the hills !!

Yes, in my opinion the rubber hands are utter rubbish. Not at all realistic and very awkward to work on.

They didn't pop out when I was filing, just at random. Looks like I'll have to practice on myself.

sounds like maybe you had a faulty one, didnt they replace it ?

they really are a good thing to have. practicing on yourself can help too, but its pretty awkward to get good results as you can never get your hand at the same angle you would a clients or on a nail trainer.

Yes definately sounds faulty hun.
Can you get some relatives or good friends to practice on?
They may actually like to do it and find as time goes on they love having their nails enhanced.
Just warn them though about the first few sets yes?:hug:
It gets better with time and practice and that's what you need.
You and they, will see an improvement as time goes on.
Good luck x

I've tried to practice on friends and family but everyone is really impatient with me. They all expect it to take 1/2 an hour and when it doesn't they get restless.

Hi chanzlue,
I will agree with gigi you should stick with the trainer, I used the trainer and it was my best fwend lol, we spent sooo much time together as you can imagine and it never complained when I was up till 2/3 in the morning doing nail extension :).

whilst you are waiting for your nail trainer to come back; fill a marigold (rubber glove) with flour, tie at the end with an elastic band, glue tips on, cut and file to look like a natural nail , then apply more tips and away you go, we do this to practice blending and it will work perfectly well for product too.

The best option (for me) is to practice on real people, there are so many people out there that would love extensions for free... You can contact me if you have trouble finding models. Hugs

Hi my nail trainer did that to me time from time i found if i took the rubber finger tip off it is fine its always the middle finger none of the others:lol:

Do you need the special glue for the Creative nail trainer or do you use what you would use on human hands? Thanks.:)

CND Gelbond works the best of any adhesive .. even better than the adhesive that EN supply!

I would love one of these nail trainers, but can't afford it

I saved up some money, but then it was a toss up between the CND 2 day event, or the nail trainer and I guess I couldn't pass up the chance of meeting all the lovely geeks in Manchester

A VERY wise decision ... not only meeting some lovely geeks .. but doing some training with the most renowned names in the industry. You will not regret it.

I sympathise entirely, I really struggled to find willing volunteers. I did practice on myself an awful lot and this helped tho you can only cover certain techniques this way. I did pass my NVQ doing this for practice and felt quit confident doing my assessments.
If your friends are impatient you could maybe do just one hand or a couple of fingers if they'll let you???

the nail trainer is awesome and i have had problems before but i found it was me filing to hard even though to me it seemed i was filing gently. Gel bond is ace so you need some for sure. practicing on yourself wont help you as it is so different to a real client. just carry on and if you still have probs then contact your supplier. hth x

This probably sounds wierd but I use blue tac (plasticine) to practice on. I roll it into a finger shape and push a tip into it. It is brill because I can hold it in my hand and I use the blue tac to shape side walls and cuticle area. It will stick to my table if I want to sit it down to use.
Wierd huh? But works great
Cheers
