What to do?

hi all, sorry this is really long,

I am a newly qualified nail tech i had planned to go mobile a few months ago then got really poorly i am now healthy again and am slowly getting my confidence to start doing new clients well that was until today, i had a new client booked in today a friend of a friend to start me off the first time i have went outside of friends and family (i had never met her before today) anyway when i arrived i got set up etc and the explained to her that i was going to carry out a consultation and why it was important to do so, and she laughed out loud in my face while saying look sweetheart there is no need to do one of those consultation thingy's on me i just want my nails painted, (she was booked for a manicure) so i tried again to explain to her that it was important to do this as a part of the treatment and for insurance reasons i really laid it on thick to try and get the point across but in a nice mannered way, i also explained to the lady that i wasn’t comfortable going ahead without doing it first and she went into a fit of laughter, then went onto to say do you think your some professional beautician who knows it all coming in here with all your cards and questions i will just paint my nails myself in that case, i was taken a back while trying not to run out the door in floods of tears and at the same time trying to hold in what i wanted to say back to her, so in the end i never done the manicure and left feeling really upset by this. I am now dreading having to go to some else and start the consultation, i do not personally feel comfortable going ahead with any treatment without doing it mainly because i was trained to do it and also because i think it is necessary to do it am i the only one who feels like this? am i going about it wrong? should i still continue to do them when mobile? i thought that every qualified tech done them mobile or salon based or whatever so i just wanted to find out if i am in the wrong and while i am on the subject i might as well ask do you carry out a new consultation each time you re-visit a client? Sorry to bang on girls i just feel like i am desperately trying to get myself of to a good start and keep getting set back :cry:

Next time just say "I've just gotta fill this form in before we get started...won't take a mo"
 
stick to your guns flower - like you said, you need the form filling in for insurance purposes, dont let these kind of clients put you off getting back out there, they are not all the same.

WELL DONE for going about things the RIGHT way, not all techs do

as Judy said - "take it with a pinch of salt" flower.

pick yourself up, dust yourself down, and GET BACK OUT THERE

You were just very unlucky to get this with your first 'real' client........like the others said, put it behind you and move on:hug::hug::hug:
 
I agree with the others.. U should always do a consult if you are treating her for the first time.. possibly if she just wanted a paint then you may not have needed to go into deepth like you would a Full set etc.

People like that are not worth worry about. She may have had something personal to hide and felt threatened or something like that. Some people are funny about their personal information. In todays day and age you just dont know where it may end up.

book another apt and to be honest... friends or a friend are the worst clients i find.. they always want a little more for nothing or expect something special.. IYKWIM.

Of couse you should continue to do consultations. Most people appreciate it and find it very professional. Consultations are designed to give as information that might be useful, even if the only thing we ever use on it is the phone number (or to remember their name).
I do think taking the casual approach, like Judy said works well.
 
you stuck to your guns and believed in yourself and your training. dont give this former client a second thought and like the others say dont let it put you off and just try a lighter approach. maybe you could say to any client when they book over the phone that if they want to make it a few mins early so you can get the consultation done then you would really apprieciate that? that way they know they are having one .

best of luck and dont let one person undermine your professionalism.
