Please can anyone give me some advice please???

I am about to do training in spray tanning and then after some practice I would like to offer this service to the public.

My query is - what do I need to buy? I have all the kit needed, its more for disposable thongs, pants, bras, hair caps etc!!! Do you find people need these or do you tend to have people having their tans done in their own bikinis, knickers etc?? I don't want to buy aload of stuff if I am not necessarily going to use them!!

Thank you for all your help!!

I would just buy the minimum amount of each that you can, i have only ever had one person wear a plastic cap and no one has wanted to wear the disposable underwear, they all come in old undies or just go naked
I havent sprayed any men yet but read a good tip on here about buying some cheap boxers from asda and just boil wash afterwards

Thanx - that is a good idea for the boxers - never thought of that!!
I was wondering about the disposable knickers coz they do look quite big!!!
Does anyone use them Stickies for the feet? Would they be worthwhile getting?
Sorry for all the questions!! As you can tell I'm new to this!!

Hi Kelly
I'm also new to the business. I have completed an airbrush spray tan course, but have not yet bought my equipment. So confusing! So many different systems but don't know which to go for!! I think I will probably buy the compressor with airbrush and gun attachment, but is working out a bit pricey. Which system did you buy? Also does anyone know of a good course in or around Essex for Compressor gun training? Thanks!!

Hi Kar

I have pm'd you about where and how much I paid!!!

Hope this helps

hi

i use sticky feet for every single client they are a god send.

i use a washable turban for clients.

all my clients where the disposible undies, most expect it.

I personally would expect all of the above when i get a spray tan.

ps. good luck with your new venture its sooooo much fun!

Thanx Becks.

The more people reply the better of an idea I get!!

Cheers for helping I'll definatly get the sticky feet then!!

my clients are advised by me to put long hair up. They all wear dark or old bikinis or underwear (as advised on my pre tan info they get) and I use couch roll under each foot. dispose of after each client. It "sticks" to their feet, and as they turn round for you to tan them, they don't get tan on the bottom of their feet from the cubicle floor.

The sticky feet look great, but couch roll at 1.50 ish per roll compared with sticky feet - well, there is a massive saving.

I suppose as well it depends on how much you are charging per client too! all the little things do make the difference to your net profit!

As long as you work professionally, cleanly, follow health and safety, give great advice before during and after then that is the main thing.

Thanks Kirsten

My net profit is something I definatly need to think about especially as I don't have much disposable money at the moment!

Thank you for helping me keep all options open!!

You need to go out and look at EVERYONES prices, what they use - research. I've been doing tanning for 2 years (almost) and only just is it takin off. I've had to work hard and get some really good cients and referrals - which I have now. I have never bought all the disposable hats and pants - as long as the client Knows what is happening, and that they are to wear old knickers.... I have never had a problem.

Ta Kirsten you are a big help!!

Done some research of prices of stuff! I live on a military camp and no competition apart from sun beds but obviously slightly different! Im ready and armed with hundreds of leaflets and posters so hopefully..... :)

Great, there is a big plus about having a spray tan vs sun beds as you probably know. Time it takes to build up a tan, the dangers of o/exposure etc etc. Maybe do a special promo, give a hostess money off if she gets others involved, client referrals.

good luck x

ps im sure couture will have tons of information for you on your course!

I don't use disposable knickers and in all the time I've been doing tans only about 4 people have asked, I have sprayed well over a 1,000.
I think more people are comfortable in their own as some of the paper ones are either too big or too tiny.
I use bed roll, folded in half and doubled. This gets used for them to stand on and to test the spray before I spray the client. When they have to move round they just move the paper with them.
I always have this folded in my bag ready to just pull out to save standing there folding infront of the client.
I always carry mop caps incase they have bleached hair.
i always carry nappy bags so at the end of the spray the bed roll and mop caps go in the bag then in the bin.

I use stickyfeet for every client - saves the soles from going brown with the overspray (even machines like mine give off minimum overspray, there is always a little that falls to the floor).

50% of my clients want to wear disposable undies - I provide g-strings (one size fits all). Men up to now have kept their undies on (if wearing boxers I get them to roll them up as far as possible).

I would say 99% of my clients want to use a hair protector cap (do not use plastic shower caps - the solution just runs off them yuck!) I use soft knitted spray tan caps which are great. As the clients cannot wash their hair for a few hours I like to offer a cap as their hair often feels 'tacky' when you have sprayed the face area.

When you start out you will probably think its all extra expense, but it is so worth it as your clients appreciate the extra and return to you for their tans.

Good tip there about the nappy bags! Ill do that!! Ta very much!! Got plenty of them in the house!!!

Ta Jen Much appreciated!

So i think if I buy the minimum of each, get the stickies and hair caps but also suggest to the clients that they can wear their own old stuff I should have it covered! Over time I'll see a trend and then decide what not to buy hopefully!

Do any clients ever want to wear disposable bras?? Or do most just go for all over tans or just wear knickers?

I have been tanning for 2 years and I have never been asked for a disposable bra. There are specialist briefs for men too but I don't offer these either... :)

No I don't have male boxers, most prefer there own, makes them feel more comfortable. Again I have never been aske for a disposible bra - most women dont care about their breasts and those who do get over it pretty quickly.

I thought so! When I had mine done I was a bit "ooooo no" but soon got over it - plus it makes sense to me not to have any white bits where a bra would go - it's like getting a dark tan and taking your bikini top off to find two white warning triangles iluminating at you!

Thanxs for your replies!!:hug::hug:

ha yeah, i'm not a fan of tan lines! It kind of spoils it all. You do get some worried ladies who are worried you're gonna judge them. I just tell them to do whatever feels comfortable and if it's a party I get the nervous ones to go in last. By the time its their go, they go for it because they see how quick it is and that its not as painfully to stand with boobies out in a cubicle for 5 mins. I have clients who still say "oh do you remember how worried I was the first time...."

oh well, good luck, and like everything you wont know til you try it will you?
