About 2 months ago I decided I wanted to change my hair colour, I haven't had a base colour on my hair since 2005, I've only ever had blonde highlights redone every year, I'd just had a baby as well and I just fancied a change, new chapter in my life and that and my dark hair was making me feel a bit washed out. Anyway I showed this picture to the hairdresser

its obvious from the picture I wanted to go lighter but instead the hairdresser did it jet black which made me look like a witch and so washed out lol! and my blonde highlights were gone so next day I went in and they stripped my hair which made it red and then they put another colour on and they put back my blonde highlights which I love and am never parting with again and this was the result

For a few weeks I was happy with it but now I think its faded and its gone a ginger brassy colour, it looks worse in real life and if you look closely a hint of red can sneak through it, so this is how its gone

Now all I want is to go back to my natural colour as close as possible, this has been the biggest mistake of my life without sounding so dramatic but I just feel like I cant go out the house because its so orange when in daylight, I'm one of those people that take so much pride in there appearance and get anxious if anything is wrong and this is definitely causing me anxiety (I know it all sounds silly) and when I am out I just cant wait to get home, I've lost so much confidence and its getting me so down and depressed, I've been looking on the net for ways to get it out but obviously the only way is to grow it out and using colour remover would just make it go lighter which is not what I want and I don't want to cut it all off because I love the length and I've read about "tint back"? I had my hair trimmed 2 weeks ago and she said it was in very good condition and my hair texture is thick just thought I'd mention that lol! so anyway I've finally booked a hair appointment for next week so what do I ask the hairdresser?, I'm just scared what happened last time is going to happen again, I've booked it with a different one and one that specialises in colour, as I said I want to go back to as close to my natural colour as possible but do I ask for a warm brown or an ash brown? Should I show her pictures of my natural colour? I just want something I can grow out, forget about, not notice it and not worry about roots and that. I have about an inch and half of root showing already so could the hairdresser get my natural colour off that and match it up? I don't want any orange or red tones as I know brown hair colours do, I just want something natural and to feel like myself again anyway this is my natural colour, sorry for so many pictures of myself, I know there horrible but I just wanted to show you my hair in different lights. lol! Thanks.

Just updated the post :) Thanks

It wont let me see all you natural colour ones just the first pic.
But think I get the jist.
All you should need to do is say what you've just said to us. Show her the first picture ask if its possible or if its going to take a couple times.
They'll need to cleanse the colour you have on out of your hair first so make sure they're aware of what you want doing before you get there as they will need extra time to do it. Tell the stylist you dont want any warmth if it possible and ask to show her in a colour book.
If youre natural is the same as that first picture then just take that x

Can you see this one? that's my natural colour, minus the blonde highlights in the fringe.

This photo is that link?

Sorry I don't know which is which lol theyll all very similar pics can look through them now.

But if its lighter than the colour you have on now then yes they'll have to 'strip' the darker bits out then apply desired colour. You can only lift out hair colour with a remover (stripper) or bleach x

The photo you linked is my natural hair colour minus the blonde highlights in the fringe. :) I thought they only strip it if you want to go lighter but I want to go darker, meh I don't know about hair as I said but thanks :) sorry for the confusion

Think im confusing all the pics lol.
Yes thats what i put, if going lighter then yes you'll need to strip it.

But If its naturally very dark brown like it looks in that picture, then no you wont need to strip it just get them to match up your roots xx

Don't expect to get an exact match to your natural colour it will be slightly different, also you may need to have the colour refreshed a couple of times and most of all is the after care don't use cheep supermarket shampoo and conditioner as this can sometimes make colours fade use professional products to protect your colour and hair. Why not go in for a consultation before your appointment so after talking about your expectations the stylist can make sure the right time is allocated to you.

Oh I know I wont get an exact match I just don't want to be going to the hairdressers every 5 mins like I am now and as you can appreciate I want to save money and I do use expensive shampoo and conditioner and have been for years, I use Matrx Sleek Shampoo but maybe should get the colour one soon and I use TRESemme Platinum Strength Renewing Deep Conditioning Treatment which personal pref gives me close to salon quality hair at home i'm going to get. Do I have to commit even if ive booked an appointment for them to do a colour?

No you don't have to commit to the appointment that is already made next week as long as you have your consultation ASAP, I would prefer that a client came in a few days before so that we could chat about colours they want and also colours they don't like also they should be able to check your hair for condition as you have had lot done before (hair thats in poor condition will loose colour quicker) remember its your hair and any good stylist will want to make sure you are happy, call to arrange your consultation and tell them you have a colour appointment booked next week but you would like to go through your options to make sure both are reading from the same page.
