Ive done 4 sets now since I trained. I'm happy with my application but not so confident at knowing how to give my client what she wants. I'm fine with natural look because I know J curl works well but for anything else im kind of stuck. Ive not worked with c or d curl. So i'm thinking omg what if a client wants this and ive never done it and i charge her and then bodge them up?
They are taking me 2.5 hours to do and i have 3 more sets booked in this week for free. I planned to charge £30 at the begining but I just dont think I can be charging yet. I dont know what you all think? But my products are going down and its taking 2.5 hours out of my time that I could be earning money for doing another treatment.

I would love to hear your stories of what you all did

Yes, I know it is difficult to charge someone for something you are not completely sure of. However, you need to remember that by charging less, you are only covering costs of your products and time. After my second set of lashes I started to charge people (even friends!!!) because professional products are not cheap and it takes time. Everyone understood that I did not actually charge for what I do - as I'm still practising, but products do not come for free... I was charging £20 for the practice I was doing - and everyone was leaving happy - as they got a real bargain! :)

I am still quite new to lashing - been doing them for almost 3mths now.

I did my first 4 or 5 sets free and then started charging £20 for 2hrs work, where I would put on as many as I could. Then once I got down to 35lpe in 2hrs I started charging £20 for a demi-set (30 - 40lpe) and then once I got this time down a bit I also started to offer fuller sets (60-80lpe) for £35 which takes me about 2 1/2 hrs. I am offering both of these at this price until the end of the month and then going up to full price as I am fully booked every week night for the next 2 weeks lol - definitely a sign that my prices need to go up :)

I would definitely start charging at least half price just now until you feel you are able to go up to full price.

This has worked quite well for me, but I have no idea if I will still get as many clients once I go to full price - so will wait and see lol xxx

My first 5 sets were for free & it gave me enough practise to be confident in charging half price sets, now my prices have gone up a tad I am just going to slowly increse them til I get to my ideal full set price. I would give a figure but since its in NZD I'd have to convert the dollars. I do sometimes feel like I should be charging more for my infills as they sometimes take the same amount of time. My advice would be to charge for the cost of product (and bit extra for your time) & do more natural sets then upgrade your clients to something a bit more fuller or glamourous at a spcial rate so you can pracrtise doing that.

Hi Kylie

Be confident, if you feel you are happy with your work then charge! You are your best critique! You sound like you have been a busy bee with them.

Analysing and client and meeting their needs. Ok during your consultation you will ask their preferred look. Ask lots of questions 'have they seen someones lashes they like' 'would they like them natural but fuller' 'would they like them long and glam and super packed out' 'would they like not too noticably false but mascara look'.

Whilst they are on the couch assess your lash... look at the length, remember ideally no more than double the natural lash length! Are the lashes healthy to be using potentially 0.2 or 0.25 weights?

Whats their natural lashes like... J curl, curly (C), J curl but they want a dramatic curl (D or B), sparse but looking for a thicker look (Y).

OK they want natural.... thickest lash you would poss use 0.2
Actually i want glammmm....... 0.25 all the way!

Remember to use a variety of sizes .... Glammm 9mm, 10mm, 11mm, 12mm

Just as a recap:

J Curl – used in most cases

C Curl – a more curved lash that gives a gentle lift to the lash line

Y Curl – twice the effect in half the time. Two lashes joined at base and split into 2

D Curl – extreme curl can be used on curly lashes, or used to give a very
dramatic curl

B Curl – straight at the base with a curl at the end, to give a gentle flick at the end of the lashes.

Remember experience only comes with practise. The more sets you do the more confident you will become and meeting their needs without thinking...ohhh do they like them.

Explain what you look you are going to create... you can even show them the lashes and thickness if needs be

Hiya
I didnt charge anything for my practice sets and just kept my practicing to my very long suffering family and friends. If anyone stood still long enough I would pounce and start lashing lol!!! After all my practice sets I felt confident to introduce this as a service to my clients and started charging properly. I know this is not possible for everyone but it worked for me and it was the right decision in my situation.

Thank you for taking the time to write all of that for me. That's a great help!!!!! xxx

I have recently trained, I did my 1st couple of practise sets free then put a note on my FB status for any of my friends who wanted some lashes at model rates. I am charging £20 for 2 hours lashing and am getting about 25LPE at the moment, each set I do I manage to get a couple more lashes on in the time,as my speed improves, and I get more lashes on in the time, I will gradually increase my prices.

My friends are all aware that they are paying well below the going rate because they are not getting the amount of lashes they would if paying full price in the salon down the road.......they have all been more than happy with what they have had, as even though it isn't even a half set it has still enhanced their natural lashes. The friends who I have done have all got their friends now wanting them.

For me this is working at the moment as I am getting my practise in, getting paid a little money in the process and because it is cheap people are wanting to give it a try, and hopefully will get hooked and keep coming back (all of the ones who have paid are wanting to book in for infills when required) And it's free advertising!!

HTH, Lou xx

Hi! Im using this quote as an example only....
I havnt done my lash training yet, Im doing it the second week in May, and this thread has just scared me! Lol xxx
Im assuming all this will be covered in my course....but....What dos LPE mean? Is it lashes per eye? Im also really nervous now about the 'curve' of the lash, I didnt realise it was so technical!!! (Sorry!)

Any advice for a newby to lashes?

With regards to charging, Im planning on using the same theory as i do with nails....Ive done about 10-15 sets (outside college) and ive been charging £10 just to cover costs. I have now advised my clients that prices will go up to £15 at the begging of May....and £20 at the begging of June. This worked for me as i started off just doing friends at £10 per set, their friends have seen my work, and ive now got bookings for holiday nails in June!

Best of Luck with your lashes.....Ill be harrassing you all again soon when i do mine lol xxxxx

Hee hee, sorry - yes lpe means lashes per eye.
I have only been using the B and J curls for now - I realy love the B curls as they are a kind of inbetween curl. I quite often use a mix of the 2 xx

Enjoy your course xxx

I started charging straight away, I explained that I had completed my training and rang each client within the next few days to check everything is ok. I'm charging from £25 and told them prices would be going up from may. X

Geeks thank you for your replies. I am going to finish up the ones I have booked in f.o.c and then start charging I think. Maybe the freebies were not such a bad thing as I have a few people recommended to me. So that's a possitive from it :) But I definately need to start charging now!! xxx
