OK so you are a ..nail tech or beauty therapist or hairdresser .
Where do you actually see yourself in 5 years? Nothing personal here...that's another can of worms:)
Are you happy to work in a salon or mobile or from home?
Would you like to further yourself in some way?
What are your plans?
Do you want to go into teaching or open your own salon?
Are you feeling a little stagnant..not knowing what to do next?
When was the last time you updated your skills?
Last but not least...do you think you will carry on in your chosen field and get to the top..or is it all getting a little too much like hard work competing against the other techs and you feel like giving up at times?
If so..why?

Good topic!
In 5 years i hope to own my own salon with haridressing,nails,tanning,make-up the lot! At this time im happy to work mobile but hope in 5 years i run my own salon.
I will deffinatly be carrying on in the beauty industry, learning new skills & bettering myself as much as i can.

:)

If you asked me that a few weeks ago, I would have said to the dogs lol!

In 5 years.....

Bigger premises, specialising in nails and spray tanning based around my fabulous reputation lmao. (don't take this comment wrong if you don't know me, it's tongue in cheek)

Alongside my salon, a beautiful training academy.

Master Artist Educator Status, with possible sub-distribution.

A decent salary.

A brand new Ford Mondeo Sport.

Potentially making plans for franchising.

Love, health and happiness......

I don't want much do I lol!

This all sounds perfectly feasible... just not sure about the Ford Mondeo bit

Love my Mondeo's.....nice family car to cart 3 kids around in and in 5 years they will have changed the shape again, even better! Sadly traded my old Mondeo in for a Vectra as they are cheaper, but I miss my old baby, don't know why I did it really!

you go girl:hug:

i'd like a nice 'upmarket' salon in a sleepy little village...with a fab reputation that peeps from miles around come to experience (lol >>>wakes up)......focusing on nails (oh and training would be LOVELY) but also doing beauty/tanning/complimentary therapy.

HOWEVER:irked: i have a good cyberfriend ( a lovely geek actually).....who i was very proud of and pleased for that was building her own little empire and doing so very successsfully until.......her staff had other ideas and went on their own in competition with her:irked::irked:

Spose sh1t happens !

IS being a one man band the better way forward...then you work yourself into the ground because you dont trust anyone arghghghghghg

who's got a crystal ball !

I think in 5 years time I want to be updating my skills as much as possible. Possibly having moved into maybe a high street location, depending on how busy I get staying in my home salon.
I want to do spray tanning, as it is far better than sun beds to achieve a bronzed bod!

I want to have my books full to bursting with new and regular clients, and I want to have a set routine, but still be accomodating!

Id love to do arty workshops, and push boundries down here (Wales). 50% of my clients have a coloured/glitter tip, but I would like them to be a little more adventurous with style, shape and art. And for them to be that little bit more adventurous, I need to learn the skills to make it possible!

I would like to train with various people, there isnt just one way of doing things, so Id like to experience change!

And I want a Range Rover Sport, in black!

xxxxxxxxx:hug:

That's a very difficult question I think and such a shame that happened......this is one of the reasons I am going the self-employed route with techs as the earnings potential is so much better for you when you are renting, if committed to it, as compared to being employed at a dogs rate.

i definately dont want a high street salon.

i would like to get in on the competition circuit next year.

i want to see my artwork in trade magazines from time to time.

and i want to go forward in my educator/demonstrator position and do my thing at overseas nail shows.

That sounds great and totally achievable.....next time I'm on my way to Newquay for hols, I'll pop in for a set of nails on the way, a nice break from the drive.

My Mondeo will be black too!

Hopefully with my own salon and my master artist programme under my belt.
Are you happy to work in a salon or mobile or from home?
At the moment I work from home and mobile, I have done a bit in a salon and was offered a place in another but what I am doing at the moment suits me regarding childcare etc., but I certainly wouldn't rule out doing salon work in the future.
Would you like to further yourself in some way?
Yes always, I love training and when I have done some I always feel inspired and ready for more, ask Derek, I'm probably a thorn in his side
What are your plans?
As above to eventually have my own salon and what I really want to do is compete, I am not a competitive person in day to day life but I think competeing will push me that bit more.
Do you want to go into teaching or open your own salon?
As above and yes I would love to educate too, if I am good enough, but am determined to get there, if you don't try you will never get!:)
Are you feeling a little stagnant..not knowing what to do next?
I think this time of year makes us all feel like that but I try to look at the bigger picture.
When was the last time you updated your skills?
A few months ago and have some dates planned for workshops and seminars, can't wait
Last but not least...do you think you will carry on in your chosen field and get to the top..or is it all getting a little too much like hard work competing against the other techs and you feel like giving up at times?
Yes I really do think that I will carry on with nails as I have never been like this with anything I have done in my life apart from the kids, I am passionate about it. Other techs will always be, but I ask myself, are they willing to go that extra mile and offer something different are they as comitted as I am? Perhaps they are but I want to show my clients that I am always learning and can offer them the latest products etc., by keeping myself updated.
If so..why?

Oh and another reason, I promised myself when I really started making a profit in my business after training, products etc., I would buy myself a pair of Jimmy Choos

I feel so knackered at the moment, with the kids and everything, I think I will have burnt out completely in 5 yrs :irked:

loving that honesty:green:

Yes I AM totally knackered...another geek was chatting to me about this today which made me think of the thread and also made me wonder what I want to do.
My brain refuses to switch off tonight...many ideas and many worries.
I want everything...sometimes too much so.
AND I admit that at times I worry that I've taken too much onboard.
It would be great to be a housewife and not work.....we all have thought that at some point(even some guys lol)...some of us have even accepted it could be so.
No.. it's boring repetitive and your brain stops working at some point.
I have to admit doing more training just gives me a buzz and I sit every spare hour I have practising designs etc and trying to make myself better. Sometimes I have got up in the middle of the night thinking about a design I want to try and practised it!
I have also gone to bed with Doug Schoon...not literally I hasten to add! But my OH has given me *the look* and said ffs can you put the book down and read Mills and Boon or something!! and who the hell is Doug Schoon??
Yep I'm a complete saddo I know:lol:
Just don't tell me I'm a lone saddo please!
I call it commitment to something and something I like.
So that makes me slightly less mad I spose??

Aren't we all saddos and fanatics like you describe (us geeks that is)? I have 3 kids a business and a husband, oh yes and 2 dogs.....but I soldier on because I have ambition and I want my Mondeo....can't say I've ever woken up and got my kit out to do a design nail in the middle of the night though......maybe that's an artistic trait?

Great thread BTW! xxx

blimey! we are all the same aren't we!

We read in bed, my hub reads a John le carre novel, me? a massage manual!!!!

Well tbh I am where I want to be at this very moment. I rent 2 rooms, and am just branching out into training. I also regularly go on training courses.

So, in 5 years, I would like to be training in my own right, and for someone to say that they had been trained by THE ANN BALL would mean something in geek world.

I would only have 1 premises rather than divide my time between 2 venues.

But, I would also be travelling around the world doing seminars in my philosophy.

I would love to be like Lynne Franks and Anita Roddrick.

I would also have a brand new mini.

Like Blossom, I have a horrible feeling I'm going to be burnt out in 5 years!!

This thread has also made me realise I have no ambition at all, not even the desire for a new car.

In material terms I suppose what I want in life is a detached house, preferably a period house, with an old fashioned garden. I'm gonna start visualising it!

In 5 years from now I'd like to still be working for myself, I want to be a CND Grand Master, I would like my column to be full so I'm busy and earning pennies, and I'd like to be able to have repaid my boyfriend back for all the money and effort he has gone to in getting Cupcakes up & running.

Just for me to be doing well with Cupcakes would be more than enough, I'm not driven by money as I've never really had any, so I can't judge my own self worth based on the size of bank balance

I'd like to be thin in 5 years time lol!

ooh in 5 yrs i would like to happily settled in canada :green: and maybe renting a room , or have a home salon (its better over there coz the houses are massive )
would like to be earning enough to be happy with which by then olivia will be at school so i can work more hours
also want to do teacher training and would really love my own training school but not sure if thats a pipe dream or not :green:

Where do you actually see yourself in 5 years? In 5 years I want to be earning enough money that we have a lifestyle we love - a holiday if we like, not have to worry about paying for Christmas, etc...... I'd like to only be working 1 evening a week by then as well!! I want to be respected by my peers for the work I'm doing iykwim.

Are you happy to work in a salon or mobile or from home? Right now I'm happy being mobile, and tbh I think I'll stay that way...... Having a salon would alter some of the other things I want to do.....

Would you like to further yourself in some way? I want to complete my L+P Masters and further my gel training. I'm competing for the first time this year and I want to further that. I want to so some session work, but can't right now cos of my kids - so that's on the list for the future..... I would love to be part of something either with Marian or the Creative team.

What are your plans? To offer a mobile nail service that has a fab reputation but gives me the flexibility to expand my nail repertoire. I want my L+P skills to be the best in town!

Do you want to go into teaching or open your own salon? No, not really!!!

Are you feeling a little stagnant..not knowing what to do next? Not right now - I've got so many plans I want to put in place but haven't got the dosh right now to do it!!!!

When was the last time you updated your skills? July 07

Last but not least...do you think you will carry on in your chosen field and get to the top..or is it all getting a little too much like hard work competing against the other techs and you feel like giving up at times?
If so..why? I'll definitely carry on with nails - I can't believe how much I still love it 3 years down the line! I do get times when I feel jaded, I'm a bit rubbish at looking after myself and taking time out but that's part and parcel of being self employed whatever your field.....

Great thread Judy - really thought-provoking...... I feel the need to write some medium-terms goals down somewhere now!!!
