Hi all i was just wondering where u all started , and where you think it is best to start? I started out doing a few friends , but with the children it was difficult to do nails with them being so young. I then worked in a salon for awhile and i really liked that , I was able to have regular clients so i was improving and my timing was get faster, but that didnt work out so here i am doing mobile bbut things are very slow for me. A lot of the nail and beauty salons around my area have either closed or are no longer doing nails but I just cant seem to pick up anymore clients.I have started to question myself as sometimes you can have a passion for something but it doesnt m
ean you are any good at it ,and i am not sure if its because i rarely do p+w . For awhile now my clients have wanted cloured acrylic or nail art and i like doing it but i never do french anymore, my clients say they always get people say they love their nails but I never get any new clients?I am just about to get more leaflets done and get a sign for my car but is mobile the way to build up your clientel or is it best to be in a salon?:confused:
 
Well I just looked at your myspace. I have to say, you work is great but you have 0 friends! You could introduce yourself to the local women on there and friend them. Same with any other social networking site you have! They're very useful for things like that!

Just avoid adding ANYONE. When people look at your page and see that you've friended Tila Tequila and some death metal band, they'll think that you're just another spam account.
 
Thanks thats a great idear ,i am new to all this networking sites and am not to good at navigating around them it was a friends idear to go on them .
 
I started out with an at home Salon and then moved into town into a rented space within a friend's dress shop. Then a year later went on to open another salon within a hair salon and then my first (of later 3) nails only salons. Did all this over the first 5 years.

In my opinion renting space is the way to go. It is economically 'doable' and you can take advantage of another's reputation and have a steady stream of clients PLUS do your own thing within that environment. Of course you have to fit in with 'house rules' but you can run what is essentially your own business. You will have more exposure and see many more clients and therefore make much more money than being mobile.

Why I would never go mobile!

1. Way too much hard work for little money.
2. The technician is way too vulnerable. (Remember Susie Lamplou)
3. You have very little to no exposure.
4. Only a limited clientèle want people in their home.
5. Mobile clientèle are notoriously unreliable clients
6. Little to no feedback
7. Isolation ... It's Lonely out there on your own.

It makes so much more sense to be in a static position where people know you are there ... they see what you can do ... you can see many more clients per day. My 2cents worth.
 
I started at home had 7 reg nail clients, left ft work to rent a table in a solarium was brill, was freelance and worked for recruitment comp so went anywhere - salon, spa, dept store, hairdressers, hotel promotions. In between was at home and mobile to a small village whilst back at college studying for teachers cert was cool but not very profitable. Finally went back ft to manage a hair, nails & beauty salon which was good but exhausting and now teach and have my own place........ also exhausting :lol: but Fabulous!

I always wanted to have as MUCH experience that I could to fully decide what was best for me, its not an easy route but did work for me as I've done so much in my 8 yrs that I dont always give myself enough credit. I hope that I can inspire my students and show them there is no 1 way to do anything and all rivers lead to the ocean which is somewhere close to where I am now (I hope):lol: Hard work and determination is the only thing that gets you more clients. Dont give up, I too am in an unusual position at the mo with very few new people coming in and my reg clients fading fast. I have kept my smile on and my work good and it will come.
 
Can i ask how did you all get into the business? Did you like nails or was it just a career and do u do it now because it pays the bills or because you love what you do?
 
if you are saying that your clients friends are commenting on how good the nails are why dont you do some kind of promotional voucher for introduce a friend and recieve money off next treatment ? worth a go:biggrin:
 
Yeah i tryed that i put the clients name on the a business card and for every new client they had recommened I gave them half price on a treatment ,Still didnt get any.
