Have only trained with Creative, but would recommend them highly. I will continue by training with Creative.

Hello,
it's my first time on here. I am thinking of taking Brentwood Academy's Complete Nail Technician (VTCT Manicure, Calgel, Creative Acrylic) course. It's one full day a week for 15 weeks. After speaking to a lady there I thought it would be good as it seems to cover everything for a novice. I really don't want to do a beauty therapy course as I've made up my mind thay I just would like to specialise as a nail technician. Has anyone here trained there? Any comments? I actually live SE London but am having difficulty finding a course that is as comprehensive as this one. Is a VTCT a good qualification? Should I be doing something else instead? Does anyone know of Creative training in or near SE London? Do they cover everything? Sorry for all the questions it's just that I'm spending so much time researching but not really getting the right answers.

I, too, had a 1-2-1 with an NSI trainer only last week - at home! She travelled from Manchester. I can honestly say that I learnt more tips in one day than I did for the whole of 36 weeks at college!!!

Hi Adele,
Noticed your details as you are in West Sussex. Looking to update my training as i feel Creative is a good way to go. I am in Brighton and wondering where is the local area for this. If you have any info would be really grateful. Already done an Esential nails course which got me on the path but wish i'd known about some of the other companies before i got into this. Cheers

I trained with Creative.
After having my nails done for many years by Creative techs, there was no doubt in my mind where I was going to train, once my time came.
Our only Creative academy in Ireland is in Dublin - I live 5 hours away by train, so to travel it takes me 10 hours there and back. Most times when I go to Dublin, it means an overnight stay and during my foundation course, it proved fairly expensive too - as I could be away for 3 nights on the trot and having to eat out etc - all of this and 2 year old twins at home!
But the point I'm trying to make is, if you want the best education, you may need to make sacrifices. I could have done an evening course at my local college and learnt to 'do nails' but I doubt very much I would have received the same high quality education that I did at Creative. Also, being in a classroom situation is very beneficial, because it helps you realise that most people struggle with the same things and if there are others catching on more quickly - they're there to give tips on how it works for them - etc.
Also, being trained by an academy excites you - all of my educators have such passion for the industry and their product and it's not long before the fire spreads and you become excited too, which is very important, as when you're away from the classroom, that's your motivation to practise and also very importantly, study.
If your initial thinking was to go with Creative, there was obviously a very good reason for it - reputation, etc (I'm saying etc. alot - sorry) but if you want to make a career for yourself in the nail industry, you need to make sure you have the best possible start, be it with Creative or not, but the easiest way is not always the best.

Hi Hun,
I trained with NSI, no regrets. You are much better with any one of the big training companies, distance learning sounds OK til you have a problem, no amount of looking at a video can beat someone there showing you exactly where you maybe going wrong.
I did manicure, pedicure, my foundation L & P, then moved on to do a gel conversion day, spray tanning, waxing. Once you start you will get hooked. My next course is in Feb doing wedding makeup, can't wait !!!!
Good luck with whichever company you choose. Remember there is so much knowlegde on this site, fellow Geeks have helped me tons & tons.

Although I don't do nails anymore, I trained with Creative and they were fantastic...........worth every penny.
Of course, you have to go with what you can afford but I see it like this:
If you want to do nails just as a hobby, then train with whatever company is nearest you.....cheap and cheerful.
If you want to become one of the best in your field, improve with life long learning AND make a lserious iving from it.........then I'd go with Creative. It'll open doors for you in your career. It's the difference between being a SuperCuts stylist or a Toni & Guy. Nothing wrong with the former but you get what you pay for in life.
Like everything in life, you have to value what you do, put money behind it and work hard.
Of course, you have to go with what you can afford but I see it like this:

I done a four day intensive course with The Carlton Institute of Beauty,i do have regrets, i think ive learnt more on here,they dont go into depth of every thing,and then you still have to take further training to get trained in a product,if i could turn back time i would of taken my doe to Creative..but i thought i could do this four day course and i would be a pro...not..!!
