I want to buy my Fiancé A UV lamp for her birthday (doesn't matter about the cost since I know they don't come cheap), since she recently discovered Shellac and would like to do it herself (not on a professional level though), on herself and on a couple of her girlfriends.

I've searched high and low on Google, but to no avail, since the only distributors are in the United States, from what I've seen.

I've read up a bit regarding the whole 110v UV lamp (US version) that cannot be used in the UK, unless it gets used in conjunction with a power converting adaptor. But I would rather prefer a UK version if there are any available on the UK market.

Are there any alternatives (but they need to be a good make and quality, since the stuff that you get off eBay etc. is a load of rubbish) makes/companies that are just as good as the CND brand. It would be much appreciated if this can be brought to my attention.

Thank you very much

Cnd lamps can be bought from Sweet Squared but I'm afraid they only sell to professionals, you have to have a manicure/pedicure qualification to buy fron there. Hope that helps

As quoted above, the only official supplier of Shellac and their CND lamp is SweetSquared. There are so many fakes available and to the un-trained eye they look like the ' real' deal but unfortunately they are not and you may find you've waisted a lot of money on non genuine products.

CND Shellac can not be cured 100% properly in any UV Lamp other than their own and it's just not worth the risk. Incorrectly cured products can cause terrible reactions. :(

CND only sell to professionals who are qualified and insured to work on the public (or their friends). We are not in the DIY market and we do not sell to consumers. Shellac is a salon service and not meant to be used at home on yourself or your friends.

This is also a forum for professionla and aspiring professionals not those trying to get pro products to use at home.

At CND we are very concerned about protecting our professionals exclusive right to purchase CND and do not condone the use of Shellac by non pros so please don't .. we'd really much rather you bought your gel polish from someone else. There are plenty of gel polishes available to purchase even from the drug store; There is only one Shellac ... leave Shellac to the pros.

Hi,
I'm sorry but I would not recommend doing shellac or any other professional only product on herself or others unless she has taken the correct training.
You may think that it's just a case of putting it on put it in the lamp and it's done, but it's all the other things that an untrained person would not even know.
If this is used incorrectly the long term damage to her nails and skin could be irreversible leading to allergies or serious skin infections at the very least.

This is why you are unable to locate a lamp,

Why not instead treat her to the treatment at your local salon or spa.

If you fiancee is serious about wanting to use CND Shellac why not treat her to professional training at any UK Creative Academy?

Many of us start out wanting to just do our own and friends nails but it turns into a whole new world and career

Thank you very much for clearing this out..:wink2:

Especially for a guy like me...Hahahahaha

Thank you for pointing this out..as it makes complete sense..thus the price attached to it as well.. since you get what you pay for..

We are not in the DIY market . Shellac is a salon service and not meant to be used at home on yourself or your friends.

As others have mentioned..If you have the qualification and the training, why cant you do it at yourself in the convenience of your own home (DIY)...

Without going into too much details.. But my Fiance got a professional Wax pot/warmer (And I know waxing and nails is 2 different things) without any training or lessons (Apart from looking at what the professionals do when she use to go for her waxing sessions) with the rest of the KIT (That the professionals use),that she bought from a well known trainer in the UK market and Industry and use it on NOT only on herself but also on me as a guy (both normal and intimate waxing)..and I have to say she is very good (And Not just because she is my Fiance) and is on par (if not better than most of the professionals out there)..

This is also a forum for professionals...

Salon Geek is a Forum USED mostly by PROFESSIONALS..and is NOT solely just FOR professionals as you would describe it..

I'm basically doing my research and "learning" in the process of what is actually happening in the world "beauty"

Instead of just going by what the average bloke know (Which is little to nothing when it comes to these sort of things..)..I rather seek the inside knowledge and expertise of people that work in the field..

What is actually involved in the training if you dont mind me asking..since 2K is a huge chunk of money to pay for a course which in the long run she may only use on herself and a hand full of friends..and NOT even go down the professional route. (As I've seen with her doing her own waxing)

The Main reason I guess she wants to do Shellac is down to the fact that it last for a long and reasonable amount of time (Since time is always a factor in ones life, especially in her line of work),and thus to sit most night and spend time just doing her nails is out of the question..Also financially one gain a lot more by having shellac rather than normal nail varnish I guess..

Hi,
Why we as professionals pay £k's for the correct training regardless of the price:
With the correct training you would Have knowledge of the structure of skin and nails and skin conditions, understand which clients are suitable and which are unsuitable for treatments and infectious diseases which you would not want or pass on to any friends you would be doing, you would have the correct application training and with this the product knowledge of what happens to clients over a long term when you under cure the products, how to look after tools by keeping them hygienic ..
(This is just briefly touching on training you receive)
( this is for all treatments inc waxing - which when she may be fantastic but again has no training !!!)

(remember friends or not we live in a society that if something happened and friends could not work as something happened they may sue you and would be untitled to)
....
This is all part of what as a consumer you pay for when you book in for a treatment;
highly trained & qualified therapist who have original (not fake) products who know what they are doing, who don't pass on diseases or cause their clients problems by adverse reactions, and are insured if something did happen.

If you work out the price of products & training & insurance - the price of a monthly shellac is def worth going to a salon rather than DIY ... !!!
Unless she really wanted a very expensive hobby ...

(I'm sorry but I think you and your fiancé need to research when things go wrong with treatments as 'we' the professional on here do know what happens.)

**Why not buy her some vinylux nail polish ... This is also from cnd and would be available from your nearest cnd salon - its the newest nail polish out that lasts 7 days ** this is available for clients to purchase...

Hope this helps clear any confusion you may have had
X

Hi, there is no harm in making enquiries and it is lovely that you want to treat your girlfriend.

I can't comment on the waxing side of things because it is simple to walk into a beauty suppliers and purchase waxing supplies and not have one's training credentials checked. One can even purchase other professional products this way, however, CND and their registered distributors are very strict about supplying only to trained therapists for a particular product.

Shellac is one of those products. In this industry we see so many people purchasing non professional gel kits and lamps and doing their own nails and that of their relatives and mates and whilst this is legal, it is not something most respectable nail specialists agree with.

Nail products contain chemicals which can cause serious and painful skin allergies if not used correctly and there is a very definite science and chemistry behind how these products work including the lamps. There is also an indepth anatomy and physiology to to nails, skin etc... I suppose I could liken it to wanting to buy and drive a car. You don't have to be a professional to drive even if it is to drive only yourself or your girl friend but you will be required to learn how, take a test and pass, obtain insurance etc... All for ones own safety and the safety of others.

I hope this helps to answer responses here. Please don't be tempted to buy CND products on EBay or non authorised distributors. There are fake products out there and you don't know what you are buying. Also, if you sent your girfriend on a good manicure, pedicure course, it may open a whole new world for her in terms of a career change.

So do you need to send them your qualifications via post? And insurance certificates? To buy from them? Or can you do it all on one of their courses/trainings. I'm qualified but don't currently use CND products I've got a rubbish uv lamp and would like to upgrade it to the CND one. Also planning to book onto the brisa course in jan/feb x

The quickest way is to scan and email or photograph and email your certificates.

Thank you very much for all of the comments and advice regarding this matter, since its much appreciated from my side..

There is more than meets the eye regarding the beauty industry, and I myself have "learned" more than enough by all of the advice and guidance that has been given and spread in this forum

I've eventually booked a manicure and shellac training course for my Fiance, and would just like to hear the views of the Pros and experts..

I saw a deal on WOWCHER (Sometime this week) for a "2-day accredited manicure and Shellac course at Professional Nails Academy" for the Price of £49.
(Instead of £230 as they claim)

-According to their website they are accredited by "The Guilds"..I've tried looking on "http://www.beautyguild.com/" to see if I can find them there, but the webiste fruits out everytime I enter the post-code (E11 1QF)

-They also offer a Manicure Starter kit for £65.00 (Special 20% discount offer with the the above deal),with the Shellac Starter kit being £112 (Includes a UV lamp).

-However the following has been said by the lady in the email (Since I've especially asked if the sell the CND UV lamp,as I want to buy it for my fiance..and also the reason for the initual forum post that I've placed on here):

"The CND brisa gel UV lamp is a lot more expensive. The cost price is £140. The be honest with you you , an alternative cheaper UV lamps can be used, as they are just as good.

My basic question is..to what extend is the above being mentioned accurate??

I am however a bit sceptical since their email adress is a normal Yahoo.com email adress..

Maybe Im just paranoid since this is all "foreign" to me...:Scared:

Thanx again and looking forward to the Wise words of wisdom...

It is not a certified shellac training you have booked im afraid.

You cannot book a CND Shellac course on Wowcher.

They are also miss informing you as you DO need the CND uv lamp to cure shellac.

You can only buy CND Shellac from S2 or their other distributors.

I would ask for your money back and book a real class. Your fiancée would also need a manicure certificate to be able to attend and purchase shellac.

Laura x

You are right to be concerned!

This is NOT a CND Shellac Class. The ONLY official classes are booked through Sweet Squared.

No - stay away! You need a manicure diploma first of all. Then and ONLY then can you buy the CORRECT and AUTHENTIC CND Shellac equipment. No one other than Ellisons or SweetSquared will sell the correct equipment in the UK and they will only supply this once they have seen the qualification certificate.

Then you are able to book your Shellac Course.

Please do not try and do it on the cheap.... Do it properly.

You do not necessarily have to do your manicure diploma with SweetSquared/CND but you DO need to do your Shellac training with them and no other.

Lots of people claim to offer Shellac training but it's worthless as far as insurance is concerned and a waste of money.

Take the advice you have been given and do it properly... Or not at all :)
