Hiya - i've just agreed a lease on my own salon (eeeeeeeeeeeeeeee!!) i love saying that!! lol:) and was originally going to do spray tanning but dont think im going to have the room. Which application false tan do you think is the best, and what are the general costs involved??? I was thinking of either Fake Bake or St Tropez as they seem to be the most well know. Thanks for your help, oh, and did i mention im opening my own salon!!!! ha ha:lol:

I prefer the manually applied tan because it's a full body treatment as opposed to a purely aesthetic one. The skin is thoroughly exfoliated, which a is a good habit for your clients to acquire, prior to the tanning lotion being massaged in. I feel that it is more of a "treatment" than an "indulgence", and my clients seem to appreciate that.
The spray tan is possibly for a different demographic; perhaps you need to know what your client base is likely to be before you make your decision. Good luck with your new salon!

Personally I would think that spray tanning takes less room than manual, as the client is stood as opposed to lay down, so I'd not dismiss it that quickly. Now I do spray tanning, none of my clients ever consider manual application, and although I charge the same price a spray tan takes a quarter of the time....no contest for me!

Your probably thinking of the manual tan as you already have a couch and can easily accomodate this. However you don't need much room at all doing spray tans. I would look into it a bit more and do the spray tans.

I used to do manual St Tropez and no-one enjoyed the treatment as they always felt too cold whilst I was sweating buckets as the heating was on so hot.

As mentioned before manual tan was an hour treatment for about the same cost of a spray tan which takes approx 15 mins max!

I know what I would go for if I had a little bit room!

i do think spray tans will be more popular where I am located but also like the idea of the 'treatment' side of the application tans.

Would I not need a pop up tent to do the spray tans?? as wont it go everwhere if i didnt?? I only have one treatment room which has my bed in so dont have room for a tent?? but want to offer tanning in some form. mmmm dont know what to do.

i spray without a tent
i use tantrick solution and the minimist
and the overspray is virtually nil.

i would find your self a corner and use that to spray, a quick wipe down with a wipe afterwards is all i use.

maybe you could incorporate both application methods??
hth x

And I spray without a tent, although I do use an extractor. However the client stands on a towel, and there is NO overspray at all. I position my client in front of a mirrored wall and each night when I wipe it down there is nothing in the way of tan solution comes off the mirror....apart from the one time I forgot to switch on the extractor that is...lol!

I don't use a tent either,
i use a small corner of the salon, i have tiled the back wall and get the client to stand on a towel,
at the end of the treatment or end of the day depending on how busy i am i just give the wall a wipe over with a damp cloth and it is all done,
i use the mini mist salon pro from tantrick and get very very little over spray,
i teach my students in this area too and we still don't have much to clean up afterwards,
you have to consider in this day and age everyone is in a rush and most do not have an hour to spare to get a tan when they know they can get one done in 15 Min's at another salon down the road hth

I was looking at training with Tantrick as have heard so many good reviews on it - didnt realise i didnt need a tent (how thick am I!!) i love the idea of the mirrored tiles too, thanks girls, you have helped me make my decision. Spray tanning with tantrick it is

Thanks
Kelly
