im getting my nails done and want to know which is best. Ive had acrylic done before but they didnt last long and ruined my nails, but they did look. I have never had gel nail before so i was wondering which one you thinks best

Hi, I dont think one or the other are "best"
Its depends on what would suit you best, what your lifestyle is like and how hard you are on your nails - your nail technician should discuss this with you and decide what is best for you.
Your nails should not of been damaged by having acrylic nails on, if the nail technician is doing a good job, it shouldnt affect your natural nails at all. And remember, if you do opt for acrylic, then visit a salon which doesnt use MMA - much better for your nails.
Hth xx

When i had the acrylics done she filed my natural nail too much so they were very red sore and thin i couldnt even put pressure on my nail because of the pain i think thats what is putting me off

Yes unfortunately that does sometimes happen with unexperienced techs, and some people do have bad views regarding acrylic. It is a shame because like I said, as long as you have a good nail tech doing what they should be doing, no harm should come to your natural nails. The files shouldnty even come in contact with your natural nails (apart from taking the shine off whilst doing prep) But thats it.
Are you having your nails done at the same place?

Also, are your nails still damaged from having them done? Because if they are, 1. I would let them heal first, and 2. If your natural nails have been thinned a lot from having them filed so much, you may experience some pain if getting Gel nails done when they are cured under the lamp. I had somebody come to me after having acrylic nails done (with an e-file). She came to me about 2 months after haivng them off. There were still dents in her natural nails and everything. She was adament she wanted gel nails, no matter what I tried to tell her, and no matter how much I told her that when her nails get cured - it can cause a heat spike - PAIN! So anyway, I ended up doing as the customer wnated, and boy did she wished she had listened to me! She was in agony!

Just to add that ALL systems are acrylic....Gel...is acrylic...non are better or worse for your nails...its all about how they are applied, how they are looked after by the clients and how they are removed.

Maybe it isn't about which system is better in your case....
but finding a nail technician who won't do any damage to your natural nail...

Do your research first, find a reputable nail technician ( do you know anyone who can recommend one in your area? ) and like has been said neither system is better or worse and neither system will ruin your nails.

and definitely make sure your nails have healed first....have some manicures to get them in tip top shape xxxxx

If your nails are still thin and damaged then I would firstly find a technician with a good reputation that you can trust will do what is best for your natural nails....Im sure you could find somebody on here in your area if you put a thread up. and then I would probably have a natural nail overlay...no length...just a thin overlay to protect them from any further damage while they grow out...and possibly l & p (better known as acrylic) would be better as its less flexible than gel.

You would find if you went back to the same person to get Gels, she'd still hurt you and do a bad job looking after your nails - because she's not good at what she does. Any nail technician hurting you is NOT doing her job right. It's not about acrylic or gel with regards to which one will hurt less. They shouldn't hurt AT ALL!!

Acrylics, gel & fiberglass each suit different nails types, shapes and lifestyle/work & NONE hurt when applied correctly.

I feel badly that you've had such a bad experience and had your nails damaged and hurt. I hope you manage to find some one who will actually take care of your nails and you!!

it was about 5 years ago when i had my nails done badly i havnt had them done since it put me off. i already have the nsi gel nail system as i do hollywood toes but i dont do nail till september. i might ask my tutor to do my nails at least then i know she is experienced.

Liqud and powder and Gel are both acrylic based babe, the difference is they cure differently. One cures with the monomer when presented to the polymer creates a chemical reaction and with gel its premixed and oligomers introduced to uv light cures the gel.
re the bad experience with acrylics find a tech that doesnt trash your nails they are out there I promise. I get many clients from other salons as they are fed up of having infill lines.

You said the words yourself "she filed my natural nail too much"....hence your nails were damaged ...so what i am saying is it was NOT the acrylic but the technician that was applying the acrylic:!:
