I am trying to work out which is the best soak off gel to use. I am currently using harmony gelish, but it is very expensive.. Which is best on price and works well?

what kind of lamp do you use? Gelish can be cured with either LED or UV but not all brands can so if you have a certain lamp you will be limited.

There are many many brands (20+) some are cheaper but it tends to be they are less well known so you have to weigh up whether you have a strong client base that you can persuade to try a less well known brand or if you think the brand "gelish" brings clients to you?

IMO if gelish is working for you and you have already set yourself up with the proper kit and training it would be far cheaper to stick with that then waste money on trying out other systems to see if you get on with them as well.

I work in a salon at the moment, but I am thinking of starting on my own. I use a uv light, I would like a led lamp but all the ones I've seen cost about 200 pounds. Would you say the cheaper ones work?

this is another very open ended question and opening up a whole barallel of worms!
trying to keep it short, generally you should use the lamp designed for the gel/polish system you choose. We arent supposed to discuss trade prices on here but I hope I'm ok to say that you can get the cnd lamp for less than the price you have quoted and that is a very reputable uv lamp. led lamps are more expensive but you dont need to change the bulbs so they will work out less in the long run.

I would suggest you look through some of the threads on this forum and use the search forum. ( try uv lamp and searching the gel brands you are interested in)
It's hard to give you a helpful answer as your questions are quite vague but Im sure as you teach yourself a bit more you will narrow your options down!
