Last night I got so fed up with trying to use the LCN extra white as I cant seem to make a nice smile line I decided to use some white tips I had. OMG I loved them and to me anyways it didnt take as long. Is it cheating to use white tips? They sell colored tips so why cant I use white tips? I understand that a client is going to have to have her tips removed at some point to get white again.

I love white tips, my clients (which at the moment are just all friends of mine!) prefer white tips to my doing pink and white! I think the like the sharpness of the smile and the colour, they like the 'fake' look :)

I dont think its cheating :)

Each to their own re using white tips, personally I don't use/like them but we have to go with what works best for us and our clients :)

Just one question, what are you going to do at rebalance time when there is obvious growth of the natural nail?
Will you remove the enhancements and start over with the white tips again or rebalance them with white gel?

Have you tried the 'stringing technique' for applying white sculpting gel?
It makes it super easy to get a nice smile line :green:

funnily enough me and one of my tech friends were talking about white tips about 1 o'clock this morning!

i myself dont mind white tips but obviously after 2 weeks and they need rebalancing and this is where it becomes a problem. personally i think the only way to keep a white tipped nail looking good is to constantly remove the enhancements and to place a new tip on them every time. obviously this would be ridiculous!

i know alot of people dont like the 'fake' look but i myself love natural looking enhancements and fake looking enhancements! (i constantly walk around with long bright fluro enhancements on my friends take the mick and say i look like a porn star lmao!) instead of now using white tips i now use a bright white powder or gel to achieve this look on a natural tip (although im desperatly trying to learn to sculpt at the moment!lol) maybe try some different types of white and see how you get on!

HI Waxing-Gal,

I have learnt that white tips are definatley personal preference, My Personal Opinion on them is that part of me wishes i had never started on them, Ever since i was told by my tutor at college that i can "pass" assesments on tips and extensions using white tips.. I have been flying through assesments . This is not good! Before i was using the clear/natural tips and i was nearly nearly getting there with my blending. In other words it has made me lazy. I am actually quite disapointed with myself, Im going to start practising bleding again, I dont want to have to say to my clients " oh sorry i cant do that, i can only do white tips.." I want to be competent in every area, I still keep doing my white gel smile lines and admittedley are coming on nice now. But dont get me wrong, I dont think white tips look awful..and som clients do prefer that "look" Although i dont think it is one of the "fashions now adays"

Take care

hi alex,

i agree that some clients like that look and some clients hate it.mi often think of white tips as a marmite situation lol. therefore to be a good nail tech you should be competent in both hun. practise your blending hun then your be confident in offering both types as part of your services!

Jodie, You are 100% right and i l.ove that marmite thing! ha ha.. Yep gonna keep on blending, Like you say ,to offer a complete and full service you have to be able to offer what they require, Plus you cant sell if you dont know.. Its just so bloody frustrating though. Think its having the time more than anything, I work full time ( in sales ) and have a three year old, College tuesday night and a partner who is as much use as!! But all that matters is that one day it will all come right! Cant wait to be one of the best xxxxx

I use white tips from time to time but like Alex I have recently decided I've became quite lazy and decided only to sculpt from now on! I'm hoping this helps me cut down costs as well as I'm not forking out for tips.
At times when I've used white tips I have often changed the position of the smile line - making it more 'smiley' kinda thing so it doesn't always limit you although there are obviously limitations if that makes sense?!

When I get a client in for a follow up after 2-3 weeks with white tips, I do a rebalance with the acrylic or gel after filing the enhancement down a bit. It may be a bit tricky at first but once you get the nack it's fine!

Is LCN a new product for you? How long have you been doing nails? It can take a long time to perfect smile lines and a hell of a lot of practice but some products are easier to work than others. I lost faith in my sculpting a couple of weeks back as I hadn't done them in so long and my boyfriend made me watch a video of Will Smith on YouTube talking about motivation. Apparently when the other guy's sleeping, he's practicing lol I swear it's my new motivational tool! I now make a point of practicing something new every day! it's only been a fortnight but I highly recommend it because not only has my confidence and self belief shot back up, I feel so much more positive in the work I produce!

Don't lose heart ... practice, practice, practice!! xxxx

Alex that's the only thing that keeps me going - being one of the best lol I work full time too and have quite a demanding job and I began turning down appointments because I was so tired but I was only holding back my own progress so now it's all systems go :D I don't have any children so I have the utmost respect for you (really don't know where you find the time!!) but finding the work and life balance is a nightmare! I keep promising my other half that our one night a week quality time will be worth it when he's hitched to a millionairess with a small nail empire - I can dream lol

All the hard work will surely pay off one day? surely ? :D

Jodie - I totally agree with the marmite thing haha I felt that way about quite a few requests some of my clients made and now I find myself wearing crazy concoctions of glitters and designs that they introduced me to! Never fails to get people talking though - and even if they don't like it, they tend to be impressed when they see you can do more than the 'norm'!

Whats the stringing technique hun?

Jodie x
Dip your gel brush into your sculpting white gel, vertically, take it out and make sure there's a long string of gel hanging from the bristles. Place the end of the string where you want the ears of the smile to be and follow the shape around until just past the halfway mark on the smile line, then repeat on the opposite side of the nail, once you've got your smile outline you can place your bead of white gel and push/tease it into place. Once you're confident with this way of applying the gel you'll more than likely be able to do the strung smile in one application.

Here's 2 Youtube links, I'm not sure which one has the stringing technique but they're all well worth watching :green:

Im Going to try it ASAP!! Thanks for that Sandi xx

Well Alex I don't think I could do as much as you! I sculpt both gel and acrylic but both have their benefits. I trained with NSI and from day one I refused to sculpt unless it was DEMANDED so I put my prices for acrylic sculpts waaaay up haha. I've only recently decided to sculpt with gel as I haven't done it since I trained and it's really not as hard as I remembered! With anything, it takes time and practice but if you can find the time you may surprise yourself with how quickly you progress! I practiced on flat forms and perfecting my beads before actually doing a full set of sculpts. When working on forms your beads will need to be slightly drier than normal with acrylic. Also when I practiced gel I sat literally for hours with one finger just doing zone 1 and each time it was ready to cure I would wipe it off and start again! I do this a lot to keep up to speed as not many of my clients go for gel sculpts.

For Acrylic I use platinum forms from NSI and I use the attraction range but I recently changed to the superbond primer rather than the attraction primer as I find it better.
For Gel I use the balance system and the clear balance forms. Gel sculpts need a clear form to make sure they cure correctly so can't cut corners there. I use the sculpture gel for zone 1 and you need to really work it to soften it up before starting. Stringing comes in really handy for this one as even though it's a sculpting gel and doesn't self level, if you leave it too long without a 'freezing' you can lose the apex slightly.

I find also getting the client to turn their finger upside down for a few seconds can work a bit better than stringing as sometimes (either through my own fault or the temperature of the room affecting the product) I find when I start stringing I lose shape a bit and need to work a bit more on it!

God I've ranted on a bit there - so sorry! Hope it helps a bit :o xxx
