I'm still having some problems with Calgel, however does anyone use white tips instead of using the white gel to create the smile line. I got my own nails done at a nail bar recently and that's what they did and it took half the time that it takes me... Is this right or should I persevere with the white gel??? L x

You can use white tips with Calgel

hth's

hi, i,m calgel too what troubles are you having ?

I only passed the course in Feb, I have done a few sets and they have all fallen off within a few days. I have followed the instructions to the letter and I posted a thread before when I got some really good tips but I still don't feel very confident. I spoke to my trainer who said just to persevere and it happens to everyone once they first start but I find it really difficult to charge people if i'm not sure that they'll last. I have four clients booked this weekend and I'm panicking!!!

As the nail grows and the white moves down you will still need to use white gel to re-create the smile line...i would just keep practising if i was you.

in what way do you mean fall off ?

the whole lot, tip and gel
or just the tip
or gel peels off tip remains ?

It seems to be the tip that is coming off more than the gel, I always check for air bubbles but sometimes im not sure if Im over blending... Would this cause the tip to fall off??

its really disheartening when things go wrong, i used to have free edge lifting, now i REALLY scrub with the calguard for a good few seconds where as before i used to wipe over i also think i was trying to make the overlays too thin, now i am MUCH more generous with the gel, dont know if you would have been trained the same way but we were shown to do your we were trained to do a wetting layer then take a ball of gel on the left hand side of the nail, place it just higher than the cuticle and sort of ziz zag it up to the free edge, do the same with the right hand side of the nail, then the same down the centre of the nail, then cut into the free edge to make sure its nice and thin, cure, if you feel this is going to be striong enough, wipe refine and either another layer of gel or a top coat, when i got used to doing it this was my enhancements really improved hth

Thanks, your right I do just wipe over with Calguard so I might try scrubbing with it. I wasn't taught to zig zag with the gel just to lay a ball in the centre of the nail and cut into the free edge and thin down at the cuticle. I think I might not be generous enough with the gel so I will try all this with my clients tomorrow and fingers crossed!!!!

tips coming off is generally down to not building a good apex on the nail.

thanks for all the advice. Will see how I get on tomorrow and let you all know!

good luck  i'm sure you'l be fine. when you have done you 3 zig zags have a look from the side any dents just very lightly touch the gel with your brush and move to where needs filling after you have cured push gently on the very edge of the enhancment to see if you think it'l be strong enough, if not just add another layer, you will prob only need to float the gel over rather than doing the z/zag thing
