Where am I going wrong with strip lashes? They never seem to stick?

Everything you need to know about applying strip lashes :)

1. First you'll need to measure the false lashes against your own to
see if they need to be trimmed. Remove the lashes from the packaging
and place them on top of your natural lashes, if the band is longer
than your lash line you'll need to trim them. When trimming lashes
always trim from the outer corner of the false lashes where the hairs
are longer, you'll need the shorter hairs for the inner corners of
your eyes. Your false lashes should start about 1cm from the inner
corner of the eye - where your natural lashes start to darken. Do not
put them past this point as they will feel uncomfortable and not sit
right on your eye. Don't have the lashes too long on the outer corner
either , it's always best to trim them just a little be short of where
your natural lashes stop to ensure they look there best and do not
drag your eye down.

2. If your false lashes have a black band keeping the hairs together
or you want to wear an eye liner as part of your make up its always
best to apply this first. Make sure you use a water based eyeliner (
most liquid and gel liners) and not a oil based eyeliner (most
pencils) or you lashes will not stick properly

3. Throw away the glue that comes with any lashes you buy (they're
usually rubbish) and invest in a good lash glue. I recommend Duo Lash
Adhesive. It only costs €12 and will last you for 2 years! 50c a month
is not bad going to ensure that your lashes stay put all night long
!!!

4. Apply some of the glue to the back of your hand and using the
handle of a pair of tweezers spread the glue so that it just covers
the band , don't apply to much or you'll end up waiting forever for it
to become tacky. If the lashes are quite big or heavy , apply an extra
little dot of glue to either end of the lashes as this is where it is
most likely to come unstuck from the eye.LEAVE THE GLUE TO SET FOR ONE
MINUTE BEFORE YOU PUT IT ON!!! IT MUST BE TACKY. This is the number 1
mistake that most women make when applying lashes, by applying them
too soon you lashes will slip and slide and be impossible to put on.

5. When you glue has become tacky, use your tweezers to place the
lashes in the centre of the eye as close to the natural lash line as
possible. It should sit on top of your eye liner. The lash should stay
in place and not slide about , if it does slide about you haven't let
the glue dry for long enough. Now that you have the centre stuck down
grab the outer corner with the tweezers and glue them down the outer
corner of your eye , again making sure that the band is as close the
the lash line as possible. Repeat for the inner corner. Do not panic
if the lashes are a little out of place, you still have plenty of time
to adjust them before the glue sets. Using the back of the tweezers
push the band of the lashes down in any place where it isn't as close
to the lash line as you with like it. Finally , still using the back
of the tweezers push down on the band the whole way across to make
sure every bit of it is stuck down

Et Viola! Beautiful lashes that will look and stay fabulous all night long!

Thanks, some great advice there :) I think the main reasons why I'm going wrong is because I'm using the glue that comes with the lashes and I'm not waiting for it to go tacky (been trying to put them on straight after applying the glue) first thing I'm going to do is order the glue you recommended then take it from there x

Also a lot of the cheapie ones are too straight in the band, you can curl the band round your finger for a second which helps. I find cutting them to fit though makes the biggest difference.

What brands do you recommend? X

My best tip for strip lashes, aside from trimmimg them to fit and buying decent ones is to leave the glue til it's really tacky. And I mean I squeeze it onto a palette while I'm still doing eye makeup. It needs at least a good 5 minutes but will be usable for ages!!

The lashes stick soooo much easier this way even though you do have a bit less time to mess with them.

Tweezers make the application easier too.

Edit oh and I second the recommendation for Duo glue. It's brill.

Agree with all salj said too.

I really rate lashbase which are available from wholesalers and really inexpensive. Someone here said they are by the same company as eyelure and I think they're brilliant and great quality. By cheapie I mean primark and poundshop and ebay, I know some people here use them on clients but I just wouldn't have the front to do so, plus you can tell the difference in photos and the lashes fall out!

Ardell, cherrybomb are others I like too.

Just re read my first post about straight bands, I dont use cheapies but use that technique when the bands go straight when reusing.

I love the ardell invisiband lashes. They have a clear band at the bottom that is very flexible and easy to apply, it also leaves you the option to apply lashes without have eyeliner as well which is handy

The thick black band does generally come with cheaper lashes , however if the lashes are very dramatic they usually have a thick black band at the base too regardless of brand. If I need to apply lashes like this I normally break up the band a little by holding the lash between both index fingers and both thumbs and wiggle them up the down and work my way down the band of the lash . It makes they far more pliable and much easier to apply

If you do a lot of make overs consider buying your lashes in bulk , I like Madame Madeleine and use them all the time for lashes. My ardell lashes cost less than the ones in penny's (or primark for you Brits :p) and are amazing quality .... But I do but them in in packs of 200 lashes a go lol

Don't apply the lashes immediately after placing glue on them, allow the glue to become tacky before applying . Place the lashes as close to the lashes as possible, keep eyes closed for a few mins. Also if you use cheap hard synthetic ones , they don't stick. Also as said above , measure and trim I fit the eye first, also bend in a horse shoe shape

Does anyone know if they sell duo lash in sallys?

Do ppl find ardell glue okay? Iv bought this but not had chance to use

The ardell lash glue is good, but not as good as duo in my opinion , I often get free tubes of these glues with my orders from Madame Madeleine lashes. And even with the free tubes I have I still go out and buy duo :)

By the way I carry both the white and grey glue in my kit.

The white glue drys shiny clear and is easy to use

The grey glue drys matte black and sets quicker than the white glue. It's great if your short on time because you don't have to go over the lash with eyeliner at the end to hide the band , the glue does this automatically but you have to be very precise putting the lash on or you'll have black blobs everywhere :)

I also carry a non-latex one from NYX just in case I ever have a client with a latex allergy. However, I've never had to use it so it might be rubbish! haha. I might try it out next time I wear lashes myself ... but does anyone recommend a good latex free one in case it sucks?
