I have a few clients that come back with their corners chipped. I got a message from one client today and she said she will need a new full set as most of them have chipped....I am not sure what she does for work.
What am I doing wrong?
Thanks
Mel

I would assume this is due to lack of product and product placement.Sometimes i strive to get a thin enhancement, and it become too thin :0

I'll try to find a pic of zone 1 to explain what i mean, brb

Well they won't chip unless she is doing something to them .. that is for sure. However if it is easy for her to chip them, then I would make them a bit thicker for her. Are you going for that competition thinness? If so it is too thin for her. Thicken 'em up for her. I presume all your clients do not suffer with similar problems?

Hi Geeg,
Thank you.. Personally I don;t like a think nail so maybe you are right. ( of course you are :) ).. I could be doing them a little to thin.. No other clients have this problem..
Actually she is the one that is asking for "thin" nails.. Should I charge her for the full set.. I know she is going to try and make out that it is my fault...
I did add a little tiny bit of glitter, would that make an difference?

In your first post you say a few clients are having this problem which is why i made the above assumption.

If she asked you to make them thin, then she cannot complain if they have chipped, that it is your fault. I hope you put on her CRC that she asked for them thin.

On the other hand, when she comes in, if you can sculpt the corners of the free edges back on in the same time as your normal rebalance appointment then I wouldn't charge her any extra for doing it.

Glitter can make the product a tad more brittle as it does reduce the strength of the product.

There is thin and then there is THIN. If you do them the thickness of a credit card, that should have sufficient strength for most people and still be thin enough to look gorgeous.

Thank you for replying so quickly.. yes sorry I did say there is one other client with chipped corners.. But she knows it is her.. she files and types all day at work and she is aware of when she breaks them.I am naughty but i did not write it down.. I only write it down when they have a colour so if they like it i know what it was... :(

I will take a look at that tutorial thread. Thanks for taking the time to help me

You're welcom, the tuorial is on smile lines but also covers product placement in zone 1. I recomend Nailclass also,it's extremely helpfull, and will ensure you avoid annoying little problems like these :D

Ps for a typist, maybe you could recomend a soft sqaure or oval shape to avoid the chipping

Thanks Bec I will do that.. She is a fussy one that is for sure not sure if she will go for a change in shape.
Geeg mentioned CRC do you always use them?.. I don;t always as i said.. something I should look into i guess..

You say you don't know what she does for a living? I have a column on my CRC which states their occupation and any children under 5 so then i can see at a glance how much abuse there nails will take on average.

Clients who type all day or work a cash register tend to get slightly thicker nails and i also advise against long length.

Knowing certain things about a client helps you offer a professional service where you can 'guide' them towards the correct enhancement

 Mel you really must fill in a client consultation form and record card at each visit, partly for your records (eg cbm mix) but most importantly for insurance purposes, does your insurance not require this ? Check it hun,the last thing you want to do is invalidate you insurance for the sake of spending a coulpe of mins filling one in. Hth's x

Oh yes i think you should always use a CRC, they are handy in so many ways.

I note down on mine every time a client comes, what they had done, colours etc

I also have a comments box for every appointment to write down any comments.

To me they are invaluable i keep them for all my treatments and fill them in religiously.

Also, my insurance requires it!

God that is funny.. i started that thread!!! LOL.. I forgot about it... And yes it is the same client.

Also I read in the tutorial that you posted for me... Geeg said something about "clamping" the free edge.. I have never heard of that... know idea what that is.
I will make a new thread because that might be the problem too.
Thanks for looking for me. I am still finding my way aroound this great site.
