Why is the tip breaking off & why is it cracking at the side?

I have had these 2 problems happen a few times now on the training hand and its hard for me to know what it is I am doing wrong so I know you ladies will know straight away.

The first problem is the tip breaking off: I use gelbond adhesive on the tip after filing in and then blend the tip in and then it just comes off. It is like I've not used enough adhesive or I am filing down the enhancement far too much and it becomes paper thin or both? What is it that I am doing wrong.

The second problem is the side wing of the enhacements seems to get a little nick in it as I am blending the tip - the nick is not something I have done with the adbrahisve it just appears and so is that problem too little adhesive or not enough contact with the enhacment to the naural nail? Or something else.

Hope you can understand what I mean with these two prolems.

Thanks x

I found when i was doing my training the tips didn't stick every well to 'Hannah the hand' with gelbond. Its totally different when you are working on a real hand.

I also pre tailored my tips too much, and they used to brake off.

See your trainer, this may be the case for you. Try speedbond instead of gelbond and try and not pre blend as much.

But like i say, its totally different working on a real hand.

xx

OK, it would seem to me you have answered your own query there hun x The problem with the trainer hand is it does not 'feel the burn' & so cannot tell you you have gone too far! Not that you should hear a client screaming either! You need to be aware how much pressure you are using, work lighter with your abrasive and be sure you are using the correct grit too. You should be using a very high grit file in this area such as your Koala (that's what I used on my foundation) and the really thin Kanga board (both 240 grit, Koala is 2 sided with 1200 grit).

Your 2nd problem would seem to me to be that you have not got enough gel bond into the wings of the tip and they are not stuck down & you are actually catching them with your file - apply your gelbond along the edge of the tip AND along the edge of the trainer nail too (as I was taught to do to begin with). You will get more used to tip application the more you do it, and then you will not have to apply to the nail bed, just the tip.

That's what I think are your problems, but without actually seeing it, it's not easy to tell, but sounds like it.

Keep at it hun, you'll get there.

The problem with both these occurrences IS NOT ENOUGH ADHESIVE. The nick is appearing as there most likely is not enough adhesive int he corners of your tips (because you have not used enough)Blending does not have to be aggressive. And the adhesive should not be thin.

Gel Bond is one of the adhesives that work really well with the nail trainer but you do need to hold the tip in place for longer than on a real hand As there is no warmth to speed up the cure of the adhesive. Speed Bond would be useless on the nail trainer so I do not agree with the post above.
