I want to make glitter tips using clear gel mixed with glitter. I tried doing clear tips, with a clear acrylic layed over them. Then did my glitter and colored gel over the acrylic. They looked pretty but the surface wasn't even, so it didn't look right (they looked too thick also). So I want to try a new way. My idea was to put down a clear tip, add the glitter gel on top of the tip. Then on top of the gel, lay down clear acrylic over the whole nail. then file, buff and UV gel sealer. My question is..Will the sparkle in the gel be dulled out by the acrylic? I know I should just go for it and test it, but I just got out of school and kind of over did it with the pure acetone, so my nails are feeling weak. Has anybody tried that yet?:)

I dont quite understand why do you want to mix gel and acrylic?

you can mix clear gel with glitter on the back of the form.

apply clear tip, bonding layer of gel, glitter tip, clear builder gel. cure in between the layers.

you can do same with acrylic - mix clear acrylic with glitter and sculpt the free edge and then build zone 2 and 3 with clear.

imho:hug:

Well I'm not comfortable with scultping yet, especially working with my left hand on my right hand. So I think it would be easier to work over a tip. I don't have any gel supplies except for a clear gel, one color and a gel sealer, plus I prefer the strength of acrylic anyways. Though I havn't tried mixing glitter with powder yet. So I could try that. But I'm still curious if the acylic overlay would dull out the glittery gel. But thank you, cause now I'm considering the pwder/glitter mix over the tip :D

i dont see the reason why l&p will dull out the clear gel with glitter, but I would suggest to do a thin underlay of l&p before applying the gel. So the gel will be sandwiched between l&p.

I know doll sculpting on yourself isnt easy especially on your right hand, comes with practice though)))

I wanted to see if the gel under the acrylic would still be sparkly, so I tested it out. I was happy with them. The red smiles aren't perfect but I was having some trouble with my ring finger and I actually had to soak it off  hehe. I did the candycanes in polish so I can take it off after christmas and still keep my nails. I thought you might like to see how they turned out. Thanks for the tips btw!
