Hi everyone,

I have reciently given up being a police officer, due to having two children and it not really suiting my work life balance, however around 3 years ago I trained in spray tan.

I am thinking about what I would like to do in my future career and would love to re-train as a beautician with a view of owning my own premisis one day.

As I know very little in the business and Im also not qualified at all, where would be the best place to start. I would obviously need to work to pay for a course but I would rather work in that industry to gain some knowleadge but Im wondering if my age would go against me (im the grand old age of 33). Could I get a reception job until I qualified would salons do this??

Thanks in advance.

Cass:lol:

Your age is perfect brings maturity to the role - do a reputable course at a good college, getting receptionist work might be hard but worth a shot what have you got to lose

Well if you are trained in spray tanning could you not do that mobile?

If you do want to go to college nows the perfect time as most colleges start taking enrolment for september starts, how about doing a nvq beauty therapy or something similar part time? Don't take too long to decide as these courses often fill up so quick. Don't let your age get to you, your still young, most of the girls in my class where in there late 30s.

Thank you lovely ladies, Im currently taking a bit of time out but wanted to start with a bit of information, and some help for the future, I love all that is involved with the beauty industry and think that I will have a good level of passion, I also own a cleaning company, which is now looked after by my mum. I think ive done so much I just need to take a break and re charge my batteries and do something that I love, which is either beauty or clothes, I love a challenge and pushing my boundrys so I was hoping my age wasnt going to get in the way but you ladies have made me feel much better about that.

How much are the general courses and also which is the best one to take.

start doing spray tan mobile or from home and build up your clients and then add treatments as you qualify, here are some of the top names

1. CND for all things nails including shellac - contact sweet squared
2. Bio sculpture for soak off gel
3. you will find nvq beauty at your local college who can tailor a course for you

you will find that even if you train at a college that you will then have to re train with each brand of company that you choose so that you learn their products,

you can go straight to sweet squared and do manicure, pedicures and nail enhancements all together and get a recognised certificate, if you want to do facials, massage etc then you are better off going to local college
