Hi,

I will be finishing my NVQ2 Beauty Therapy course soon and I would like to do some work experience in the summer before level 3 begins.

I have written letters and sent CV’s to various salons and spas around my area, but so far I have had no response.

Do you think it would be appropriate for me to actually go to salons and ask the manager face-to-face? If so should I wear my college beauty uniform? Any help would be much appreciated.

Thanks!

Chaz

It's not gonna hurt to go in person and ask. I don't think you need to go in uniform. Clean and smart is best.

We get lots of CV's, half the time I don't really read them, so would potentially miss a covering letter asking for w/e.

Best of luck x

Okay, thanks!

hi
i would go around various salons if I were you, you just never know you might just end up being in the right place at the right time! there is an old saying where I come from "shy bairns get nowt" so go for it you just never know where it will lead you, all the best and lots of luck.

p.s a bairn is scottish slang for child

lol thank you:)

I wouldn't go to the salons, salons can be very busy and most of the time the manager/owner wont have the time to speak to you so it would be a wasted journey. In my experience I found ringing around the salons and asking to speak to the owner or manager works far better. That way if they are busy you can leave your details and ask her to call you back.

Sell yourself, have a speach ready and then if she says send in your CV then send it with a cover letter mentioning the call.If there is a position the manager/owner will be able to tell you.If she is busy you can say you will call back or can she call you back at a convenient time to her/him,but make sure you speak to her rather than one of the therapists.

There's a million and one therapists/hairdressers all leaving college at the same time so it's pushing yourself to the front of the queue that will hopefully get you somewhere. It's always worked for me.Good luck:hug:

I'm just down the road from you in Felixstowe (Looks Beautiful Salon) so if you'd like to send me your CV & a covering letter I'm sure we can sort some work experience out for you.

Awww thats lovely, love to see posts like this:hug:

I'm also doing my level 3 and have now written to 6 salons and even offered to do some voluntary work to assist them in their salon to thank them for helping me with an assignment. I enclosed stamped addressed envelopes and have not had one reply not even using the prepaid envelope to say sorry they couldn't help me.

Hey,

I'm nearly finishing my level 3 and like you I have been writing to salons and spas looking for a vacancy.

My advice would be dont give up because something will come up. It may not be now but I have seen many fellow students give because they don't receive any replies. Please don't join them lol! I have been lucky to have a few interviews but unfortunately lost out to experienced therapists but this has not stopped me.

Keep selling yourself and you will get your dream job :)

Good luck hunny and let me know if you have any luck!

Vicky x
