Hi Geeks, Another Insurance question :irked:. I have just spoken to my Insurance Broker about my Building Insurance and will I be covered through Aviva if I convert my garage and they are happy to cover my building. I will then need public liability which shouldn't be a problem but does this cover me if I were to burn a client with wax or if they had a reaction to something that I used? Is public liability only for if the client slipped on a wet floor etc ? Help

What Type Of Insurance Do You Need?

We tend to talk of “insurance” in a generic sense, but in fact most therapists and nail techs require three different types of insurance cover. These are:-

Treatment Liability

Treatment liability covers you in the event of a claim being made against you by a client claiming that he7she has been injured as a result of your negligence.
e.g. if you burn someone with wax.

Product Liability

Product liability will cover you for retailing products to your clients, and non clients, for use at home.
e.g. if the client purchases a homecare product that leaks or explodes in their home and injures themselves or causes damage to their furniture.

Public Liability

Public liability covers the individually insured therapist if the client were to be accidentally injured or if damage to their property occurred while in your treatment room.
e.g. if they were to trip over a trailing cable and injure themselves whilst in the treatment room.

If you take a look at the following article, it details the information you need to consider when choosing an insurance policy: http://www.salongeek.com/business/67348-insuring-your-success.html

The Guild offers £2 million Public, Product and Treatment liability cover, and if you quote 'Salongeek' as your referral code when joining, you will get £10 off.

Thats perfect. I have taken note of this. Thanks

I would bear in mind too, at least with my home insurance company, that they removed my accidental cover from my home insurance because I was running a business from home. Even though technically no clients ever enter my home as I use my utility room which is seperate to the house altogether
