am new to this so hope this works,
i am self emplyed and have a very small salon, but the last few months as with lots of people have been really tough and have had to let therapists go, my lease runs out next year and have to let my landlord know what my plans are fairly soon, but am thinking of working from home, have spoken to a few clients and they have said they will follow whever i go, what are the ups and downs? on paper it seems a good idea and will certainly cut down my overheads. any advice and info will be great.

I work from home and do a couple of mobile jobs for people who can't get to me because of mobility reasons. I love it. You can control who you see and when. Downsides can be avoided by laying down ground rules to begin with. Appointment only, no just turning up. You will have to make clear your rules about children, some people assume it is ok to bring their kids and you will give them a drink and a bickie and they can watch your telly in your living room! Timekeeping can sometimes be a bit tricky as some will think you're at home anyway so it doesn't matter if they are late. Mainly though everyone is fine but a few rules to begin with doesn't hurt.

I did mobile exclusively up until 3 years ago so had to ask my clients to change from me coming to them to them coming to me. I did not change my prices as the petrol costs covered the electric etc at home. I only lost 2 clients at the time so it is not too difficult if your clients like you. :)
