Applying shattered glass foils

Hiya,

I've never used foils before but I have been asked for the shattered glass effect.
I bought some of the foil from eBay and have cut into strips but just want to confirm if I apply over the tacky colour coat or top coat?

Will the foil lose it's effect after the final top coat?

I have googled some videos but most of them are encapsulated or sticky back strips.

I did these last night (with and without flash)...

I applied the colour coats and cured and then stuck the strips onto the tacky layer. Make sure you place them exactly where you want them though as if you try and move them that area isn't tacky anymore.
I had an issue because my foil was rolled so it was hard to place. I think I'm going to try them over a layer of hard gel next time as it leaves a stickier surface,

The top coat didn't dull the effect though and if there were any 'spiky' pieces I just buffed over and re-top coated
