Hello i'm new to salon geek after hearing about if from a friend and i am hoping to offering some beauty treatments. I was just wondering if qualified therapists would recommend individual beauty courses or a college course.

Individual beauty courses that have a good reputation, hth

You can search a list of Guild accredited courses on the Beautyguild Training Directory. These are courses which have been approved for Guild insurance purposes.

thanks for you help, this is a really helpful site buy the way.

I agree with Loubylou.

However it all depends on your personal circumstances, i.e. what you can afford and how much time you have. Some people find it easier to take a day or two off from their current job and learn intensively, but some people prefer college one night a week.

It's actually a very hard choice, because intensive courses can be fantastic, and they can be hopeless. But 'ditto' courses at your local technical college!

I have done both, and both have been both good and bad. My advice would be to put your toe in the water with both, see how you get on.

My first ever course was Body Massage. (One evening per week for a year.) A couple of months into the course, I thought, 'I can do this!' so I signed myself up for an intensive course, got a certificate, was able to get insurance and start charging, but at the same time, carried on with my VTCT. I have done this for nearly every discipline I am qualified in!

Good luck with whatever you decide. And maybe get yourself registered for a ticket to Professional Beauty North which is coming up in the autumn.

Professional Beauty - Welcome

Im starting a Beauty Specialist course at my local college Sept.
This is one day a week for a year.
It covers Make Up, Waxing, Manicure and pedicures, Tinting and Falso eyelashes

thanks I'll have a look at the show, sounds really good. I'm overwhelmed with this site, have even statrted looking at the spray tanning threads they are brill.

I have had good & bad experiences of both colleges and private training. All I would say is check what your qualification will be at the end of the training as some certificates may be acceptable for insurance purposes but are not acceptable for post graduate training. It really depends on where you want to go with your career in the future.

Training is expensive so make sure that you are happy with the course that you choose and most of all - enjoy!
