Hi everyone,
Im new to these forums and I'd like some help and advice PLEASE!:green:

For the past 6 years I've been working as a carer (looking after elderly who have dementia). Im 33 years old and constantly feel stressed and also get a lot of back and neck pain with the job. Its time for a change:idea:
So I really would love to become a beauty therapist, working in all aspects...well I know thats a lot of aspects, but as many as is realistically possible!!
So I've been searching online for a course (NVQ 2), The prices seem to range from £1000 - £2500 but Im a little confused as I know there are a lot of cowboys out there offering these courses, and I know that I would need my public liability insurance which some of these courses do not mention?
I would like to do a part time course, so that I can keep working while I learn etc and then once I gain my qualification the idea is to start my own business...Im fed up with bosses and managers!!

I live in Orpington, Kent so it would be lovely if theres anyone in or near the area who could point me in the right direction..!! :)

I think thats all for now...Im sure I'll think of other questions later!!

Thanks
Rachel

Hi there, I was in the same situation as yourself and wasn't liable for any funding. Paid £1500 to go to mainstream college on an adult course, although it's classed as full time it is only 2 days per week. If you can manage taking those 2 days off it's well worth it. I'm in the north of england but I'm sure they'll be that kind of course near you

Hi Rubytues

Thanks for replying to my post.
How did you find all the public liability insurance..? I might be wrong but I believe that if the place where you do your course has a bad reputation then you would get refused the insurance..? So how would I know that the place I go to is reputable...??

You won't need any insurance until you have finished your course and I doubt you'll be refused insurance if you're training in college

Hiya, I'm from your neck of the woods, to get insurance after you have qualified you just need to ask if the course you are doing is accredited. I did my NVQ 2 and 3 at the London College of Beauty Therapy. They offer different kinds of NVQ's depending on which area you would like to specialise in. The courses start pretty much every month and you can choose from 4, 3 or 2 days a week. If you'd like to know anymore PM me, hth :)

The course Im doing is a fast track - 5 hours on a saturday and they also do evenings during the week. I'm not sure if many colleges do this option though.

If you can't take the time off from work, why not try and train in a college in the evenings, classed as part time. For the past 2 years I've trained this way in nails and in September will be starting a third year doing a NVQ 2 in Beauty.

College for me has been good experience, clients have come in for cheaper prices and I've gained client experience through that and with the help of my tutors if required. I would recommend it to anyone!
