Best business decision you ever made

Hi Geeks,

In the last year I have overcome some hard times in my salon (staffing issue) and revamped treatments, retail and interior of my salon. These choices I made have turned my business around making it fresher and more appealing to clients. I feel as though I love coming in to work again.

So...I just wanted to know what have been your best business decisions whether is was the decision to close down, re decorate, start again, take on a different brand etc.

This thread might help someone who is struggling to deal with the aftermath of a previous decision or who wants some inspiration on how to take their business forward as sometimes we can feel quite alone when it comes to making important decisions.

Hi there, for me the best decision I made was specialising. I offer afew nail treatments aswell as that was my forte for many years however 2years ago I completely rebranded and now its 85% waxing. All my social media is geared to promoting my waxing business..

My best decision was investing in myself last year. I extended and redecorated my clinic and rebranded with my logo on everything. My business has increased 15% in 4 months and one client said it was like coming to a spa, a destination not just a salon.

I may have a home based clinic but I now treat it 100% as a proper business.

To Urban Spa, totally random quest! I had Phorest in yesterday giving me a demo Im sure they mentioned yourselves that have the system. Is this right? if so has having the system improved your business financially? If you would rather private msg that fine. thanks

The best decision I made was to take on a lady as my training co-ordinator. She is worth her weight in gold and I don't know how I managed without her. I'd teach or wax all day and spend all evening replying to enquiries.

It can be scary paying money out but it frees you to spend time making more money. Most importantly it gave me my life back.

Absolutely agree Kim! Pay peanuts you get monkeys. You pay for what you get in business. My mum is known for her waxing in our area and I am sure she would love to chat and do extra training with you! Xx

Learning to delegate! I used to try an do everything alone! Then I realised I was getting nowhere fast! I do what Im best at and pay other people for what there best at, an accountant etc! Saves me time and funnily enough money too!!

So agree with this! Admitting areas one is not at their best on and delegating to someone who is makes business so much more efficient. And it's not a weakness to not be able to be everything in your business, it's just like a relationship that you can't have everything in that one person that you need and want. Xxx

I agree with this. As a friend said - don't be a busy fool. I have learnt to delegate and not think that I'm the only person who can do things well (maybe better). As for business decisions - 2 biggies for me. I took on Salon Iris booking system which has been a fantastic decision. Reasonably priced and does everything I want it to and more - texts so cheap I do lots of promos with them, and am looking at online booking now, and I took on the whole IIAA range - Jane Iredale make up, Environ skincare and the Advanced Nutrition Programme. I now specialise in skincare and am very pleased that my clients recommend me to friends with skin problems!

For me, I think it has to be going over to Joico. Ive spent literally thousands on training for myself last year with them, and then passed this training on to the rest of the team.
I revamped the salon with Joico EVERYWHERE and it looks great.
It was a real investment, but goodness we are so busy now I swear its down to the products, colours and new techniques and disciplines we are using.
