hi everyone! I am a salon manager and stylist looking to motivate my staff! wondering if anyone has any creative/fun incentive ideas that have motivated you to work harder??

I don't do incentives I do team bonding which usually involves an afternoon in the pub & enjoying some down time all together

Bump! Interested to hear replies. We do worker of the week , work of the week, tips jar :)

one place i worked most of the staff have been there 10+ years and no intentions of going anywhere else so they must be doing it right! we were paid commisson on everything we sold but there were always competitions running like who could sell the most ghds, we had a tick chart in the staff room so could see who was ahead etc, was a bit of fun and the prize at the end was a pair of ghds)which i won!!!, we also had other ones who could sell the most xyz.

on top of all that there were regular nights out, afternoons for in house training. Basically always something going on to keep a bit of a buzz going on and to keep the staff interacting and geting to know each other not just when they were working.

I agree. I feel like incentives can create unhealthy competition. I reward good work, but I don't announce incentives.

Going out in the evening with your colleagues after a busy day at work is still an incentive. As a business owner, you're running a business to make a profit, not teaching in a primary school. Competition is what drives business and is perfectly healthy. ;-)

However, as staff are individuals, I would consult my staff for their ideas and probably run a range of activities & promotions to ensure that everyone is catered for. After all, not everyone wants to spend their down time drinking in a pub with their work colleagues.

I have to say that drinking at the pub with my work colleagues is something I actively try to avoid!!!!! Depends on the people I guess, but I'm motivated by acknowledgement of my efforts by promotion, bonuses and commission. If you tell me " sell x y and z, and I'll give you £x bonus" and I'll work harder.

But that's me, we are all different! What works for one salon won't work for another. Ask you staff what motivates them, and go from there.
