Can I put gauze over a regular face mask?

I am a lash technician and do lashes all day long but am adding facials on for my existing clients and want to be able to make the most of the time the face mask is on by starting their lash top up..if I put gauze over the face mask to protect it from smudging, will it effect the results of the face mask or won’t it make a difference?
Would be really grateful for some advice,
