couple questions about getting FB 'likes'

have decided to start a fb page this weekend, want to encourage 'like' swaps with local relevant companies, is there a way to locate them - or is it just trial and error and how do you do a link ? i have seen other post things like 'love your page, come visit mine then a link to their fb page' havent a clue how to do this, showing my age now lol
