what's the trick that i'm missing... i'm trying to encase some 3d-ish flowers in clear acrylic... but the finished nail is waaaay too thick!

i'm sculpting a thin nail (blending glitters) then making my flower, still thin, but i'm trying to keep the "detail" of the pressed center of the petals and the roundness of the middle. then i'm topping the whole nail with clear, keeping an eye on my stress point and such.

but when the nail is finished, it just looks too thick. i want it to look like this nail... http://www.thenailgeek.com/gallery/showimage.php?i=2981&c=501 (sorry for thieving your pic smiler:wink2: ) or http://www.georgiesmedley.co.uk/nailservices.php :Look_left the inset flowers pic (what high goals i have!)

is thickness just the nature of the beast?

i find they do turn out a little thicker. but to keep them as delicate as possible, keep the main part of your design in the stress area where the nail should be the thickest anyway. this way the bulk will be in the middle and you can taper down the tip area juast as you would on a regular enhancement.

Try and make sure when you encapsulate your clear is quite wet...

I don't mind you using my pic as an example, your more than welcome :wink2:

The trick to encasing art and still keeping the balance of the nail is to apply your back ground and design thinly as possible, and to do this use very small beads. Your clear should be slightly wetter so it gets into all the little grooves and don't cause air pockets. The clear seems to magnify the designs slightly and give a bit more depth.

Hope this helps. Merry Christmas, take care xx
