Hair fail

I wanted to dye my hair a burgundy brown color and decided I was going to do it myself. I had a balayage before dying it and my ends were very light. I got a box dye from the brand ION. It was called “dark burgundy brown”. It seemed like it would be the color I wanted until we started putting it into my hair. It turned my hair HOT PINK. I think the color might have been meant for going over brown hair but I want to figure out what kind of color I should use to go from pink to burgundy brown.
