i am new here, so firstly hi :) and secondly sorry if i have posted int he wrong place, I am still finding my way round lol

I would like to train to be a beautician and have enquired into a course at my local college. this is run on a sat over one year and it is a VTCT Diploma Beauty Specialist Tchniues (fast track) Level 2 course, I have just lost my job and cash is now tight and i dont think I can afford to do thes course

I am looking on line for home study (you can pay for these in instalments so is financially better for me right now) but I am concerned about the qulifiations not being a recognised one nd dont want to qualify for it to man nothing (if that makes sense lol)

The one i have seen on line is with open stud college
it is a beauty therapy dipolma
thi is what it says about qualifications
Qualifications

2 qualifications in 1 course!
Qualification 1: Beauty Therapy - Professional Diploma
Nail Technician - Professional Diploma entitling you to use the letters "SAC Dip" after your name.
Qualification 2: NCFE Level 3 Beauty Therapy Diploma - Professional Award
This Course leads to an NCFE Level 3 Award Certificate for successful learners.
This course is independantly accredited on Level 3 on the England, Wales & Northern Ireland National Qualifications Framework - the equivalent of an NVQ Level 3 or an A-Level.

is this a recognised/good qualification?

Thank you all for your help

Hi

Have you checked out the Carlton Insitute? They also do courses.

Hi Teens74! Have you asked your local college about funding available? Some allow you to pay in installments, and in some cases, depending on your own personal financial circumstances, the course fees are actually waived (or paid for you) TBH, I really wouldnt do a home study course if poss as in my exp, the courses are v hands on and I cant really imagine being able to do it alone, from home, without a course tutor surpervising you? Sorry if anyone has got their quals this way, and think Im speaking out of turn, I have never done homestudy before, but I have done college based and thats just my point of view! There are also other funding options available specific to your local area, so try looking into that aswell-all is not lost so dont give up just yet!HTH!xxx

Hi,
I agree with Sparkleberry...more than likely your local college will have options for you...speak to them, you may even be eligible for some sort of learning grant.
I really wouldn't spend your money on a home study course...you will learn so much more from being with other learners and having a tutor on hand for help and advice is invaluable...
Good Luck,
Sarah x

re your college course - I would recommend qualifying to level 3. As an employer, I do not employ anyone unless they have level 3. I think this is pretty standard as far as most employers go. X (just food for thought).

Ty I should have said I want to start up my own business so it doesnt matter about being employed

Is NVQ the best qualificaion to have then?

Most colleges allow you to pay in instalments, and there is a lot of help if it is your first level 2 or 3 course, speak to the college x
