Help on hair dyeing

So a few months ago I got blond highlights for the first time. Then about two weeks ago trying to do it myself I used the same color in a hair brush and put it in all the front of my hair making it looked bleached and kind of orange, I did not like it and it was an accident so the next day I got it dyed back to my natural color at a salon.

So my question is, I have been taking care of my hair with creams and stuff every day to fix it, and I wanna dye all my hair light blond (my hair is medium brown). I dont want to damage my hair, so how long should I wait before getting this process done? And what should I do to prepare?
