I was supposed to be in college last Tuesday for the first day of my course but i had been in hospital the week before for 3 small op`s so i wasn't well enough to attend and i have missed the first class,
the tutor allowed me to go in on Friday to collect my course handbook,
i have an assignment to write and have to hand it in on Tuesday, i am working Mon and only have today to do this in but as i missed the first class i don't have much info to go on, i am sure some of the geeks on here have done this course and was hoping for some help, even if you just point me in the right direction of where i can get some info from online would help enormously.
The course is City and Guilds 7303
Preparing to teach in the lifelong learning sector level 3 and 4.
My first assignment is to describe what your role, responsibilities and boundaries would be as a teacher in terms of the teaching/training cycle.
i have to do this in 500 words, HELP :Scared:

I have never had a role as a teacher so this is all completely new to me.

Hi Louise,
quite frankly I would leave it and promise to catch up in the next few weeks.
If its the first class and you missed it, then how can you possibly do the homework.
your tutor will understand, and don't sweat it.

If you still want to do the homework, I can give you a few suggestions although I did my teaching cert about 17 years ago, it might not be what is in mode now.

I know what you are saying and i thought i would get away with doing this too but as i missed so much school when i was a teenager he wants me to hand in the first assignment to see if i am going to be up to scratch with my English skills etc..
( i was a full time carer for my mum who was terminally ill with cancer so missed school from the age of 12, i sat my exams but never knew the results as we moved house when they would have been posted out, and been a kid never went to the trouble to find out)
so i don't have much choice hun but to do it as i do really want to do this course and the ones after it,
i thought if i do my teaching courses and along side do more nail training courses with creative, in a few years i should have all the qualifications and experience to be able to teach nails in college maybe and raise the standards of there teaching methods

And some of my other assignments i am sure the geeks that already teach nails or beauty will be able to help me out with (pretty please) are...
1,
Summarise the key aspects of current legislative requirements and codes of practise relevant to your subject and the type of organisation within which you work, (i have to do this in 350 words)
2,
Evaluate a range of ways to embed elements of functional skills, in your specialist area (i have to do this in 400 words)
3,
Review a range of different assessment methods available and explain the ones you would use for your subject area. Evaluate the use of assessment methods in different contexts, including reference to initial assessment.
justify the types of assessment records you would complete and explain why.
(i have to do this in 600 words)

as i haven't been in a school setting since i was about 12 other than my nail and beauty courses, i feel a bit like I'm drowning so any help, advise or links would be really useful to me,
thank you in advance

I hope someone can help hun,you deserve a chance

I haven't got ready made work for me to paste and copy as my training was a long time ago, but I do still have my D32, D33 assessors work somewhere if that will be of help.

From what I can pick out from this question:

describe what your role, responsibilities and boundaries would be as a teacher in terms of the teaching/training cycle.

Your role/responsibility is to facilitate learning to everyone, without discrimination, gender or racial.

To work at each individuals level and to assist learning to their capabilities, ie if you have someone with dyslexia how would assist this,(find out what they needed to help with their dyslexia, pink or yellow paper, or use of a laptop). This could be assisted with a test paper at the beginning of a course (the colleges provide you with this its a generic paper). This can pinpoint who needs extra help with basic English, etc.

You are a teacher and assessor, so therefore you will be teaching the subject to the curriculum, ensuring that aims and objectives are met, to continually assess throughout the course, to give constructive feedback to the student indicating where they are not achieving and suggestions on how to achieve.

You will support each student, observing how they are coping with the work and offering assistance if needed.

To ensure that all assignments, modules are completed, set homework and mark this.

To prepare the student for practical assessments as well as theory assessments.

To guide them through essential health and safety issues.

To explain how the assessing procedure is done, ie assessor, IV, EV.

To make the student aware of the complaints procedure, counselling service, student union service, etc.

Thats from the top of my head, hope that it spurs you on to put pen to paper, and perhaps a few more geeks will join in. but if you have any questions, and you think that I can help, please ask.

Thank you very much Hippy chick, that has helped me loads, i had made a start on the assignment but it was no where near as informative as the info you have given me,
i am off to do some more on it now

Hi
fret not! I was in a similar situation a few months ago as I am studying for my Cert in Training practise and doing a very intensive course ( lots and lots of hours over 6 months.....hopefully if I finish on time!)
Anyway the Systematic training cycle requires you to (sorry if you already know this! ):
  • Identify needs of learners
  • Identify solutions to their needs
  • Plan training
  • Allocate relevant resources
  • Think of costing
  • Training design
  • Implement training ( how you will do this )
  • Evaluate training: How you will assess students to make sure relevant learning has taken place.
I have kinda put this in my own words but I think if you just try and remember to stick to your passion for nails and get across how much you want to teach and how you will do it by taking into consideration the above points your assignment will flow nicely!
Also if you need help on definitions or training ideas check out Businessballs - free business training, free learning resources, ideas, and materials for ethical personal development, self-improvement and organisational development you will find loads of great help on there.

HTH try not too worry too much, I know its hard but I am a strong believer that if the passion for a subject is there it will help you achieve anything you need to do along the way to get to where you need to be! If that makes sense!!

The help i have had so far has been great, thanks girls, i have managed i think to do this first assignment with your help so i will hand it in tomorrow and hopefully get some feedback from the tutor,
and emma thank you for your kind offer, be expecting a PM from me, i would definitely like to meet up for some tips and pointers from you that would be great

Glad that you have managed to get it completed and hope that the tutor is very helpful and gives you good feeback.
My offer is there for whenever you need it just drop me a pm if i can help in anyway.

hope tomorrow goes well.
take care.:hug::hug:

hope you get good feedback too.

I didn't get much feedback really, the tutor just skimmed over it and said yes that looks like it will be fine,
he said i would be ok and get through the course but I'm not too sure, i sat in class today and felt like everything went straight over my head, i told the tutor i felt like i was drowning but he said its ok a lot of people do ??

well at least he didn't look at your work and point out that you had got the wrong end of the stick, so thats good.
remember, you are at the BEGINNING of the course, that is why you are there, to learn how to do all of this.

One thing I hated on one of the courses I did, the tutor showed us a completed portfolio and I sat there and felt so stupid and inadequate thinking that their was no way I could do anything like that.

your course is a certain length of time to learn how to be..... so just relax and try and enjoy it as much as you can.

Sorry you felt like that last night, dont be put off the course worrying if you can do it or not Iam sure you will be fine and when your portfolio is completed it will be just as good as everyone elses.
sometimes tutors dont give enough feedback straight away but iam sure that next week when you get your work back you will have done a great job!
Dont get upset ab out anything, you know where Iam if you need any help.:hug::hug:

When you have finished this course you will look back at this thread and think did I really say that!

Remember back to when you started nails and I bet you said at the beginning - I am never going to get this - and look at you now!

You will get there - and sounds like you have got lots of support on here too.

Hi Hun and welcome to the site,
i am amazed to say i passed the course although i did feel like i struggled all the way through it,
my tutor was no help what so ever, on one occasion when i told him i just did not get it for one of the assignments he asked me to go in and have a meeting with him,
i did this thinking he was going to explain things to me but instead he passed me someone else's work folder and told me to look through it to get some help ???
read through the answers i got to this thread, i wrote my assignment from these and it was fine,
also if you do a search on here (at the top of the page) just type in 7303,
you will find all the other questions and answers relating to this hth
