I'm just doing some research as I'm interested in offering laser tattoo removal. Does anyone offer this in their salon and can you recommend a machine/s?
I understand I will probably need more than one type of laser for removing the different tattoo colours?

I would also be interested to hear from anyone who has had this done, how effective it was, how many treatments you required and what type of laser/machine was used.

Thanks in advance, Debbie. :)

Hi Debbie :)

I'm having my tattoo on my wrist removed. I went to my local tattoo shop who have a removal laser. They quoted me 8-10 sessions at £35 a time. I thought ok, not too bad. I had 11 sessions and my tattoo was not even half gone!!

I then went to laserase, which is run through the hospitals in Scotland. They advised my the shop I has been going to has actually made my tattoo worse and more permanent, as it's must have been a cheap Chinese one! As it produces so much heat it has actually melted the ink rather than break it up!

He advised me the newest laser they bought was £210,000!!! I now have to pay £100 a time, however in 2 treatments my tattoo has faded more than the 11 times I had the other one!

I think this needs a lot of research and knowledge before anyone has anything to do with laser tattoo removal. I didn't do my research properly and I regret it now.

I know alot of people will have different opinions, as it's so popular! I would imagine you will make alot of money through this, however I would hate for someone to be put in the same situation as me! Xxx

You need a q switch Yag I believe. Don't get a cheap machine and I would advise taking on some serious training before doing it, seen lots of damage done by lasers not used properly, in fact I treated a client last week for a bad laser scar, where I am it's Dr use only, but it doesn't stop some people buying a laser and using it illegally with no training.

If in the UK check out Lorena Oberg, she's a very knowledgeable lady for all kinds of tattoo removal, including laser.

I do think it's something best left to a specialist in that field and in a clinic setting. There is a level 4 qualification in laser therapies but not sure if it covers tattoo removal.

I can highly recommend training with Lorena Oberg who trains in Derma Eraze, she's fabulous.
I also like Lynton lasers
