Hi Everyone!

I am thinking of starting up a facial waxing mobile business.

Do you think it could be successful without doing full body waxing?

Thanks for your tips and advice :)

If you do waxing anyway why would you restrict it to just facial waxing?
You will be losing a lot of potential clients if you only offer facial waxing.
We do a lot of waxing at my salon but if we only offered facial waxing then that's over half the income gone!
why don't you want to offer full body waxing?

I am 5 months pregnant, and the thought of carrying my waxing table and cart is daunting. Plus, I was looking at a lower start-up cost...

I agree with Angelina, I do alot of brow shapes etc, but half of what I do is half legs, bikini's etc, also being mobile you want to do as much in one place as poss so your not spending more time driving than earning, if clients only want a top lip and brow you'll spend more time setting up than doing the treatment, but if they have a full leg and bikini as well it's much more worth your while.
Chances are, that they also would book with someone that could do all there waxing not just there face.
If you set up as a mobile waxing specialist you would do fab hun.xx

You really would need a couch to do facial waxing too, or your back will kill. You can get couches that are 10kilo's.

Thanks, Angelina and Ukfaye !

Food for thought....

It's business suicide really!
It won't cost you that much extra to offer full body waxing.
You will have to buy wax pot, pre-cleansers etc... to do face waxing.
To offer full body waxing you just need more wax, strips and spatulas. Spatulas are really cheap and so are strips. It's really not going to cost that much extra to offer full body waxing.
You are going to need a couch and as Faye said, you can get really light ones now. They weigh less than carrying a toddler round!
Keep it in the boot of your car and you'll only have to carry it from the car into the house. :)

It won't work......apart from for the lady with the moustache in the admin department. It's like doing pedicures and not manicures.

How about you get a room somewhere or work from home? xx

I did mobile nails and waxing up until my 8th month (but I had a lot of mobility issues, otherwise I might have gone longer).

You'll find that most clients will fight you to help you carry your couch in and out of the house! My ladies were all so fantastic about it - while I was still being careful (using good body mechanics, etc), they didn't want me to hurt myself by trying to lug it myself.

Plus, if I was just doing facial or underarm waxing, I skipped the couch and put my special sheets down on a bed or sofa (I have one client who actually prefers to sit upright when having her arms waxed). It got me through that last difficult month!

Good luck to you - you may find you'll build up a very loyal clientele if you are good at your job. I had a round of ladies wait until week 4 after the baby was born to start calling my message service, even though I was still on leave... "hi Dawn, do you know when you might be coming back, exactly?.... my eyebrows are getting fierce!"

Forgot to add...

Forget the cart! Put your kit in a plastic box with a lid, and you are good to go! It's not heavy, and you can carry it in a way that your melted wax won't spill on your way to the clients' house.

I've been doing this awhile, so feel free to PM me if you have any other questions :) I'd be happy to help out with logistics!

I agree with the others. Facial waxing is also the cheapest. You would earn more money for legs, backs etc. Although I have to agree that a couch is the professional way of doing treatments I don't agree with the 'saving your back' part of it. I have seriously ruined my back due to lugging my couch around which has resulted in a twisted sacrum bone. So have had to resort to ditching it and i'm finding it a lot better.
To be honest I cant see you earning much from doing just facial waxing as clients will end up finding a therapist that can do everything at the same time, rather than having 2

I am 35 almost 36 weeks pregnant and was doing mobile until about 3 months ago when I turned a room in my house into a little salon.

I can see why you would want to do only facial waxing. I done 1/2 leg wax brow thread and lash tint the other day to a client and I was nacked afterwards. Back was killing me sweat pouring out of me. so understand why you would only want to do facial. But to be honest it is not a long term viable business and if your just starting out you probably wont find many clients that only want faical waxing only and it will cost you more to get to them than they are paying for the service.

I would say personally it is not worth your while doing it more to the point. I am now at the point of having a few clients a week for now.... Good luck with your desision and pregnancy.

Thanks everyone!

Kim, I would love to work from home, it would be a huge $$ project to do so, in terms of getting a room ready for the town and the state to inspect.

As far as renting a room, the salons I have gone to say, we don't have clients that ask for waxing, so we don't have a room to rent. Whatever happened to creating a need for services?

I love to wax, it's my passion. Wanted to do this for a long, long, time.

Not sure a salon would allow me to rent a room for one or two days a week, to get a feel for the salon, and give me a chance to bring people into the salon

Hi hun, out of interest what do you use instead of a couch hun?x

Hi Ukfaye,

I have what we call a portable massage table, it's about 35 pounds (what is that, 4 stone?) it's padded on the top, and I put a sheet and table paper over it when I am waxing. I have looked into some that may be lighter, new or used, they range between $300 - $500 (184 to 306 quid). My wax cart is very light, just takes some space, I do have a plastic rollabout with wheels and drawers I can use.

Then of course, money to put away for insurance....

btw, kylieb, what do you use instead of a couch?
