Hi,

I've always been interested in beauty and wanted to go to college at 16 to do beauty therapy BUT I was encouraged to do the A-level and uni route which I did and have been teaching ever since. I've stopped teaching now as have a gorge 8 month old daughter and I would love to re-train in beauty.

The prob is that I don't have a clue where to start, I've found a huge amount of courses all around the country but nothing local to where I live (Lincoln) I'm terrified of wasting money on useless training as they all seem quite expensive. I looked at my local college but they only do a part time nail course and although I would like to learn to do nails I'd also like to learn waxing, tanning, facials etc

I have found a place in Nottingham 'Cosmetic Consultants' and they seem to do training in most things but only a few days and you 'pay as you go', does anyone know about them?

Any advice on the best way to train would be gratefully received, especially people that have trained later on in life, hearing how others have made a success is always interesting.

Thanks in advance :)

Hi Honey:lol:

I, like yourself, have decided to enter the beauty world after having another career.

But, unlike me, you really do have time on your side!

Are there no adult education centres in your are that offer NVQ level 2 courses or ITEC courses. ITEC is recognised worldwide and as you are still young and starting your family it could benefit your entry into Australia or America etc if you ever considered moving abroad.

I am currently on an ITEC Beauty Specialist course which I hope to complete in June/July this year.

Good luck in your pursuit of a beauty career, which is where your heart lies.

This is my first reply to anyone on the site as I only got the courage today to join in on this excellent fourm!

X

Hi,

Thanks for replying, the only NVQ courses are the full time college based ones which don't fit with looking after my daughter. I've just had a search for the ITEC courses and still no joy, will keep looking!!

Ring the college and find out what hours the nvq 2 courses are.
Eventhough they say full time you will be surprised how few hours you may have to do.
My daughter does about 19 hours a week 3 days a week. The college may also be able to advise you about child care some have nurserys.Remember to that its only from sept till end of may and holidays in between.
With tanning if you have the pennies to set up you can get trained, insured and start straight away.It wont take you long to get your money back.
