VAT free's

Hi all.

I love a good VAT free day, many hair and beauty suppliers do the same or similar promotions.

I'm just wondering who started it first?

Also, if it's a VAT free day, the discount is not 20%?? Or is it 16%? Weird.

If you have a vat free day, you don't pay the 20% added for vat but the company still pays the vat so it will show as the vat going on then the same amount coming off. If you're in the UK the vat is 20%, so you wouldn't get 20% off the total price you would get the original price without the vat!

It's illegal to sell things without VAT. Basically it's marketing to say 20% discount day.
