Women's lifetime beauty bill is £133,000

Who thought being beautiful could be so expensive? According to new figures from QVC, the average British woman spends a staggering £133,000 on looking good during her lifetime. Even in a recession, the stats chime with traditional thinking that insist sales for essentials like lipstick are strengthened during harder financial times.

Broken down, £2,056 is the amount an average woman splashes out per year on her hair, skincare, cosmetics and bodycare products and services. Men, too, aren't free from vanity either. QVC reports that the average man spends £942 a year, amounting to £61,230 during his lifetime.

Sue Leeson, from QVC, said: "Body maintenance is a vital part of feeling good about yourself and we all invest a lot of time and energy to look our best." However she believes we need to be more discerning with our beauty purchases. "Be careful, therefore, not to waste your pennies, seek advice from the experts and make informed purchases. Rather than trying out faddy 'miracle' treatments, invest in a beauty regime you can really stick to and get results with.
"As it’s something that is ongoing, shop around for your favourite products to ensure you get them for the best possible price – buying exclusive sets or larger sizes can also help you save in the long run."
