I have a problem, I run a salon with self employed stylists. I have recently done a complete revamp and the last thing is to buy chairs. The issue is the stylists want a say. I understand that but ultimately is it my decision as the salon owner?? Or do I have to listen to them and buy what they want? I'm on a budget and have found suitable chairs in my price range but now they say they want to buy their own for reduced rent. I don't know where I stand.

Legally they're self employed and it's your salon. Buy what you want and they can like it or lump it. If they want their own chairs (and you have space), they can provide their own chairs but they wouldn't get a discounted rent because ultimately it's their choice and they can take their chair if/when they leave.

Why would a one off purchase of a chair by the renters entitle them to a permanent rent reduction???? That's absolutely ridiculous.
Seems to me like they have been ganging up on you as you are so nice.
Are they plotting a revolt?
