Self employed beauty or nail tech earnings.

Well, I just looked up the price increase item. According to those stats I work differently. I take a client every hour. To help my timing I clean the pedi bowl as I’m polishing the last client’s toes. As a sidenote, in my part of the world, the living wage is $22 an hour for a household of...

Self employed beauty or nail tech earnings.

I’ll tell about the USA, West Texas. I have 50 years in the business and can’t afford to retire anytime soon. Just filed my Federal Tax return and fortunately I had saved enough to cover the $4900 owed. I pay $125 a week for a space 7ft x 7ft. I have a pedicure chair, desk, my stool and 1...

    Gel nail allergy???

Once you have been sensitized to gel it’s almost 100% that you won’t be using it again in the near future. Or maybe forever.… If you are not a professional, you won’t receive replies, so please tell us if you are.

    Issue with Gelish LED Lamp

Something is wrong there. Think about how long you’ve had the lamp. Remember that the lights lose strength during several thousand uses. that alone makes me buy a new lamp every 5years. Since the timer malfunctioning, it’s time to invest in another lamp.

    Pedicure products

I have used Qtica products for at least 20 years. Their website is www.zoya.com. I have a distributor who sends me significant sales often. If you want her name after looking at the site, I’ll be glad to share.

    Plexigel

I’ve used Plexigel since it was introduced. I converted all my acrylics to it. I use shaper and do a regular fill. Shorten, light 180 zebra file over nail and product, base, shaper. Then I polish with either shellac or regular polish (remove tacky). When the polish is removed it looks shiny and...

    Opinions? Please be honest.

Sorry, I had to laugh here!! Wow, you get a lunch break!! I don’t know why I have never taken a scheduled lunch break. I keep protein shakes and bites of cheese to hold me through the day. I just fill in every hour and go. But, your situation is different with so many different treatments going...

    Golfers Elbow & Tendinopathy

I owe my 50 years as a nail tech to my first mentor. She insisted on the proper use of wrists, elbow, shoulders, neck and pelvic placement. I have never had a problem with pain or discomfort thanks to starting out the right way. I will always be thankful for her instruction. That being said...

What is happening to beauty industry??

Absolutely. My employees hated cleaning up after themselves. I’m now working for myself and love the control. The only drawback for me is what to do with mani/pedi clients while I’m on vacation. Not having backup is hard.

    Did I destroy my nails?

My two cents. Resist any tendency to clean or scrape under the nail plate. It may look weird but it will flake off naturally although slowly. You don’t want to loosen the bond where the nail plate is trying to reattach to the nail bed.

    Fungal nail, allergy or psoriasis?

I see more and more press on nails that look wonderful. I would definitely recommend using them, IF the adhesive doesn’t cause reactions.

So, old thread, my bad. Seems you are still doing your own nails?

    Fungal nail, allergy or psoriasis?

It’s good to hear all the different ways to treat the symptoms. However, it’s the Cause that is of concern. How and why did this happen, so as not to make the same mistakes in the future. Trying all these different products in short succession wasn’t the best idea, in my opinion. It translates...

    Please help me so down

This isn’t a program to ‘fix’, but something I encourage my manicure clients who complain about ‘ugly hands’. I practice deflection and redirection. A less than perfect hand is ‘camouflaged’ by directing the eye to a brighter polish and lovely jewelery. The in between is passed over. Try a...

    Not confident in nails

A common technique is sometimes ignored. Balancing the pinky finger to allow the hand and wand to move with precision. I work with a tech who for 30 years has ignored this and wondered why her clients always complain of their nails getting caught in their hair as the polish grows out. It’s...

    Gel nail brands

CND was formulated to be layered. The first introduction featured combinations that expanded your palette. Any of the more translucent shades will transform your basic colors.

    Bio sculpture assessment

Never took any BioS classes, but bought some products when one client said she wouldn’t use anything else. I’m not a big fan of hard gels anyway, but I’ll say one good thing. They have an extensive selection of whites.
