hi my employer wants me to provide this service although i havent had any training in this specific area ( iv done hot wax thou!) am i right in thinking (hoping) i wouldnt be covered on my insurance ? - when i joined the company it wasnt part of the job so im reluctant to take on this service as im worried as to the type of clients it may attract . ( my employer wants to put an add in local newspaper personal adds section !!!!).

Hi

i certainly wouldn't take this on. I think Im right in saying that most insurance companies are ok in you doing intimate waxing as long as you have your certificate, but in all honesty, without the proper training you could do some real damage to some poor gents jewels!!!

There alot of loose skin around this area that you need to know how and when to hold and I for one wouldn't take it on without the proper training.

Kim Lawless on here (Waxing Queen) along with a couple of others is the one with all the answers on this so hopefully she or them will pop up to answer you question more thoroughly soon.

H xx

Male intimate waxing is an advanced treatment and just like all other beauty treatments you need to be qualified to get insurance and to learn the skills of how to carry it out professionally. It is not the same as basic waxing due to the sensitivity and contours of the area.

Just say to your employer that you don't feel comfortable to do this without training because of the risks involved and lack of knowledge. It angers me when employers try to take the p*** and get their staff to do things outside of their profession and training. If anything went wrong with a client you and your employer would be liable and could even lead the salon to forced closure, it is not worth the risk.

Thank you girls - i feel like there trying to turn the salon into some seedy joint -there not from a beauty background and are just seeing pound signs.

I dont suppose you have any advice on change of contract as well ? X

I don't know the regs on male intimate waxing, but I wouldn't like to go ahead without having the right qualifications. Plus if you don't feel comfortable doing it then don't! I definitely wouldn't want to do mens intimate areas!!

you's would both need to agree on a change of contract because if you breach it your employer has the right to dismiss you. If it is unlawful than you have the right to refrain a certain clause. I think your employers are chancing their arms or may not understand how being a professional beauty therapist works. I kindly ask to speak to them and say how you feel.

Here in the England.........and I think it covers the whole of the UK. YOU DO NOT need to have a qualification in Intimate Waxing. A qualification exists, but you do no need to have one to carry out this treatment. Being a trainer myself, I know this for sure.

HOWEVER............you would be wise to get good training before you attempt it as Mens Intimate waxing is a real skill. Get it wrong and they'll be wearing their testicles as earrings. Not a good look. xx

Ouch! You don't seem to have a very positive view on men wanting BSC waxing, why is that? You're not going to get some sex offender coming in trying it on.

if you don't want to do it then fine that is your prerogative however, that's two uncalled for negative posts about male clients who want to look after themselves whether they are gay, straight, married, single, good looking or absolute trolls.

My husband looks after himself down there, he sees it as cleanliness and the fact that when the hair is very long it looks unruly and awful (they must think as well that it looks bigger lol). Now from what I get from your reaction is that you think the likes of my lovely hubby are seedy and they don't belong in beauty salons as they will bring down the tone!!!!! Where is equality? If it was an a man saying they didn't want women in for that reason, you would no doubt be up in arms.

Have a bit of empathy, you will have to treat men at some stage, even if it is only a pedicure or massage. I have loads of male clients (I'm an aesthetic nurse) and they are all fantastic, whilst I don't wax their nether regions, I do body treatments on them and have a banter with them. None of them are seedy and remember that there are male geeks on here and geeks who do intimate male waxing who will provide a positive side to their job I'm sure.

I couldn't agree more.

As one who does Mens Extreme waxing all day long, there is nothing seedy about it. All normal guys who like to look after themselves and have Brazilian Waxing done for the same reason that women do.

Oh give me a male client any day! (sorry ladies!)
I do intimate male waxing and never had a perv yet! You will get more strange phone calls to do with massage than with intimate waxing.
Men are very loyal and always listen to the aftercare. If you recommend aftercare for them then they will buy it and do exactly as you suggest.
I wouldn't want an advert in the personal ads though.
Get yourself trained properly and advertise properly as this is a very lucrative service. Of course your employers are seeing pound signs- isn't that what business is all about?

Perhaps an ad in the hair & beauty section might be more appropriate rather than in amongst the ads for escort services. I get the feeling that the OP does not feel comfortable about the idea of performing this service and surely she should have the choice.

That lovely employer of yours again! Everyone else has said it well and I too would pick up on not assuming it would attract the pervs of this world. But the main thing is, if you are not comfortable with it, after all cracks are not everyone's cup of tea, then that should be your right. I think a phone call to the insurance company is a professional thing to do as part of your research and find out what they require.

It sounds to me like you are having a lot of things thrown at you - does your employer have a problem with your pro-activeness? Maybe you and he need to schedule a long sit down to talk over things and find out his problem. Maybe he is desperate for income as the business is in a lot of debt and going about it how he sees fit rather than talking over better ideas with you - after all he originally brought you in to be the manager and is busy demoting you (as per your other thread). You can pull this one back from the edge but it will take some diplomacy and bravery on your part to tackle it. And then if the bugger is not in any way going to see eye to eye or is actually trying to constructively dismiss you then you can take it from there.

Phew that is a lot for an early morning post! I hope I have not stepped over the mark. Caroline x

Lots of things I'd like to say but I'm rushing around today. Agree with smooth totally. With regard to insurance, it depends who your insurer is, for example, if you are insured with Guild then yes you will need a qualification but if you are insured with Babtac it seems they are more relaxed about it. Personal ads are not the way to go though. If you are listed in waxing4men or learnmalewaxing.co.uk then business will come to you.

I love treating men. I can't say I've never had an unpleasant experience but it is 99% good, and if you do get someone who doesn't understand boundaries, you just have to look them in the eye and tell them! And remember woman can be unpleasant too. I agree with Angelina, give me a man any day.

I trained in male intimate waxing over a year ago and after 6 months of offering the service at my salon i withdrew it . I hated it. It made me feel cheap and sick to my stomach .I was charging £60 so good profit but it was absolutly not worth the distress. I do not want to wax a man with an erection ( and worse )and every single male client I waxed got an erection.not to mention the weirdos phoning my salon and offending my staff. I found this very offensive and my poor partner physically threw up when I told him how upsetting I was finding it.

You need to talk to your insurers about this. Each company has different requirements, so it is best to check directly with them.

Did you realise that the price list on your website still lists male intimate waxing?

Thank you all for your input x I don't have an issue with men - I do have male clients ( most are husbands , friends ect) if one of those people approached me and I was trained I would do it x I think its the way my employer is approaching this that's upsetting me - if we are to attract more male clients than it has to be I'n a professional capacity and not on nights out as she is suggesting xxx and Kim you will be the first I approach for training x thank you all for your advice xxxxx

Thank you all for your comments x i havent an issue with men - i love em :)- i have many male clients and would n't be fazed by treating them , as long as i have adequate training by no other than the lovely Kim ! my main issue is the way my employer is trying to recruit clients (basically pulling and handing out my cards !!!) that is creating the wrong impression and this makes me nervous xx i also don't want to causes serious harm. (well not to all men!) lol xxx :D

hi im with the guild ! somebody has posted that they would require additional training .
