I've written a myriad of articles on the 'latest' facial. Each one is often just as ridiculous as the last one but each time, I give them column inches. Tempted as I am to gloss over the latest diamond facial fad, I feel the professionally it would be ungracious of me to do so, so here's my (admittedly unenthusiastic) summary of what this all entails.

Don't die of shock, but it originated in L.A. developed by facialist Tina K and to give it its full name: Diamond K Advanced Exfoliation treatment. On this occasion, the journalistic gods were looking down on me because it turns out she's already spoken to Allure.com about the whole thing. So, speaking to Allure.com, this is what she had to say.

What is the diamond file? “It’s a medical-grade stainless-steel tool that has real crushed diamonds on one side that polish the skin without discoloring or causing damage to capillaries.”

How did it come to be? “I created it with my cousin, who’s one of the engineers for the Mars Rover, because of what lasers and chemical peels and microdermabrasion had done to me. I wanted something highly controlled so the technician could adjust the intensity of the treatment for every inch of skin. You can’t do that with a machine or a peel. It took us three years, but we’ve finally perfected it.”

Who would benefit from it? “It’s to minimize large pores, smooth out lines around the mouth and eyes, break apart discoloration, and resurface old acne scars. It’s great for all skin types, including people with rosacea, eczema, and psoriasis—just not those with active acne.”

On a positive note, the Diamond Facial is probably an easier sell than the bird poo facial or the snail trail facial.

Until then…geek on!

Is it just me, or does this sound like you're essentially rubbing your clients face with a foot file?!

As an Eyelash Tech, I am not an expert on facials or a dermatologist, however, reading this latest rubbish regarding the Diamond Facial, I have to say that I have now read it all!!

How can any so called expert truly believe that any part of a diamond (the hardest geologically formed rock known to man) be necessary to use on any part of human skin in order rejuvenate or improve the complexion?! Human facial skin is delicate and should be treated gently and with respect. Human skin has its own nourishment and regeneration system which has worked for millennia, without the need for harsh methods such as this. This is yet just another product to extract money from people who have more of it than sense. I expect it will do very well in LA!!

I may be being ignorant but this doesn't sound too dissimilar to diamond dermabrasion or microdermabrasion ...
