Help if possible

Hi, I'm having real problems with my hair lately I have naturally wavey/curly hair and for the past year I've been getting a certain haircut (combover) but for me to style it I have to straighten it.. However with my barber being sick one time the barber done it different and I can't get it back to how I like it what I want to know is in the images below would you say my hair has been thinned out or not? And does thinning it out make it less curly

Any Hairdresser or Barber advice would be much appreciated!
