Just wanted to ask if anyone has done any leaflet drops and if they found they worked? Im about to do one so any advice would be greatly appreciated

I had a company do a leaflet drop for me a week ago (3500 leaflets) and to be honest i haven't had any response yet which has made me quite apprehensive but my hubby says that its like take away menus - people keep them for future reference. I hope i get something soon though as i need more business. L

ive done loads about 2 months ago and not got anyone through that

Save your money, they are very expensive to do . With very little return. Try directly marketing your clients. with news letters etc.

I think you are far better off leaving leaflets in specific target locations (gyms/nurseries/shops etc) rather than flyering thousands of houses.

I gave up after delivering about 650 flyers with not a single response.

I have, however, had reasonable responses when I've delivered, as mentioned above, to specific places - two branches of Next, couple of other fashion shops, hairdressers and have asked several peeps if they could put a flyer up at their workplaces, which I've had two or three bookings from recently too.

Am most definitely getting most brand new business from my on-line advertising though, has so been worth the time and effort. Second to that are referrals/word of mouth.

I'm completely the opposite. I find leaflet drops work best for me.
I've advertised a few times in my local paper but never had much response from that.
My salon is based in a town centre so i go and hand out leaflets on market day and get quite a good response from that. I've also left leaflets in shops and that's been good too.
Your best advertising is word of mouth but unfortunately it's also the slowest!
If you are leaflet dropping round houses then you really need to repeat it. Studies have shown that most people will have a quick glance when they first get a leaflet and then perhaps chuck it in the bin. The 2nd time they get a leaflet they will recall the first leaflet and perhaps book. 3rd time you will get more custom.

The link doesn't work

Oh ok its on this website www.salontweet.com under my profile thespraytanshop.

I am at hospital with my mum tomorrow all day so will try to copy it over here tomorrow. Not sure if I am allowed to link to a blog.

Hope it helps

Expect about 1-2% response from a well worded leaflet drop. Not a great return.

best advertisin i find is an advert in the classified bit of your local papaer costs me about £12 a week and i get LOADS!!!!!!!!!!
i also put my cards in sunbed/beauty salons.. morrison/asda/tesco.
get a good result from that.
never done the leaflet drop, as i have never had to,, x

I have done a couple of leaflet drops and definitely got a 1-2% response rate which doesn't sound a lot but once you get a client through the door the word of mouth advertising starts.

Also it's amazing how many people said to me that they had held onto my first leaflet but only got round to booking when they saw my second. Repetition of leaflet drops work!

Think about leaflets you receive through the door on a regular basis, when you get another one through from the same company it jogs your memory and if you ever need their services you will probably give them a call. You just have to keep reminding people that you are there!

Go for it and see what happens for you xxx

I brought a laser printer for £50, printed A5 leaflets i made myself (2 per A4 sheet) and when im quiet at the salon i do a few streets every other day.
I gave '20% off your first visit with this voucher' and i can honestly say, i have had so many people back from this. 20% is alot i know but my business has only been open for 3 months and i think in this current financial climate some money is better than no money. most clients have rebooked from the leaflet drop voucher and paid full price so i dont think i could have survived this far without doing it!
you can make professional looking leaflets for a fraction of what printing companies charge.
i would recommend this 100%

I think it has a lot to do with what is on your leaflet - I too am getting at least a 1-2% rate on leaflet drops with 20% of this being repeat custom and it defintely takes time before people contact you. My leaflets have a bit of an intro about myself so hopefully making it more personal (and therefore harder for people to just throw away) also i put a lot of my prices on there so people know what they will be paying before they ring up. I have only ever delivered my leaflets myself - the idea of a company delivering them for me (although i may be wrong) makes me think they will be in the centre pages of the local newspaper along with a load of other junk advertising that people don't really look at and therefore prob just throw away. I also choose my times for delivering - I like to do them in the early evening which gives you a chance to possibly catch people coming home from work and maybe even get chatting to them - i appreciate that not everybody has time to do this but I definitely think leaflet drops can work if you put the effort into it

I have had a fantastic response from my leaflets. I got a good deal 5000 for £85. My friend designed them and made them as eye catching as possible, they are bright pink and black. All I have on them is my name Mobile Hair Stylist, contact info and times. The majority of my clients have come from them. I think I've done about 3000 so far. A lot of people have kept them and called a month or so later. I think because they are so bright people look at them rather than just bin them. Also, try delivering them either after work or on a weekend so they don't get lost in all the junk mail.
I've also got an ad on freeindex and have had 4 new clients from that, and then referals from them.

Good luck!

ummm sorry if this is a bit of a late reply but dont do it!!

Leaflet drops waste your time, money, energy and lots of paper!

They only have a 1% sucsess rate in general! So thinking like this you will have 3.5 people respond (wonder if the half will be the top or bottom of a person!)

Anyhoo.. what kind of business do you have? i.e what does it specialise in or is it just a 'general' salon or mobile beauty therapy?

Mobile is the hardest to market so you have to be clever with your ideas..

Firstly i would say focus on your existing clients, offer them buy 1 get 1 half price when they bring a friend or 2 people for the price of one when they bring a friend..

Once you have got your number up that way you can then focus on getting new customers..

Repeat customers are the most important and people forget that, they should be treated well and ESPECIALLY in the current financial climate studies have show that people feel you are privilaged to have their custom so are even more prone to brand switching..

Hope this helps.. if you need more info pm me or wite on my discussion in this forum

Kisses hun.. good luck

Excellent advice.. if you can get them at a good price make them really appeal to your target market.. maybe put a special introductory offer on there..

I read someone the other day that especially massages are the fave at the moment with all the credit crunch stress so you could offer a 15 min one for free and 10% your next one???

The reason i say this is once a person has met you and likes you they are much much more likely to ask you again. Especially with going to people's homes they can meet you and can see they trust you and your nice so getting into peoples homes any way poss is a good idea (im not talking breaking in!! he he)

Sorry im a pain in the ass... ill go now!

Its a beauty room i have within a hairdressers and i find that people dont really know im there because the salon is upstairs and out of the way so doesn't really have a shop front or anything. I was mobile before this and have put on the leaflet that they can either come to the beauty room or i'll also do mobile. I hve also put a special offer on the leaflets which is 10% off your 1st treatment or a free shape and polish or free eyebrow wax with your 1st treatment

If it didnt work - you only either did it once or you didnt do it right :green:!!

All my leaflet drops and those that have followed my advice that I have trained have had 15-50% rate of return. Its all about quality not quantity. I would post it here but its too damn long so you will have to read it on the link I posted or on my signature theres a 'read my marketing blogs' bit = click on that!
