Hi Blair,
LED therapy is the overall treatment because the products for the therapy are made from LED technology, which is safer than laser diode technology.
Under LED therapy there are various wavelengths of light and the different wavelengths are seen are different colours by our eyes.
So red is a wavelength of LED light which is about 630nm. What the different wavelengths mean is that the skin reacts differently to each colour because of the penetration levels.
So Red and near infrared light 630nm to 900nm can penetrate the skin upto 2-3mm therefore reaching important structures like fibroblast cells to boost collagen production, hence Red light therapy is the best for antiageing treatments.
Some others also refer to LED therapy as photon therapy, photo-dynamic therapy or light therapy. But not all products are LED technology based, they may be laser diodes or some cheaper products sold online are just normal lights which can heat up and harm the skin. Always check the underlying technology in any light products.
Hope this helps Blair!
Best Regards
Mel
