Hi

I am an experienced hair extensionist. I do weaves and trained with Racoon for the glue bonds. I have seen everyone trying out the new micro rings and have looked into the training but am wondering if its worth me doing the training for it as im pretty sure i could just get on and do them as they are so easy.

Can anyone recommend a product i could use?
Do you think i should pay the £400 for training?
Can anyone recommend brands to t:confused:confused:rain in or to buy direct on line

any other hints and tips?

cheers

If you search their is a similar thread to this full of info :)

Hi sorry this isn't of help but was just wondering where u trained to do weaves I'm really interested in learning how to do them xx

hi stacy, ive been doing them for 10 years, i learnt by watching friends doing afro weaves, its a really simple technique - check it out on utube.

This thread is promoting everything that is wrong in our industry.

i totally agree!! For a professional you can only gain insurance to fit in the methods that you hold certification for - and as for learning from a friend....if the friend holds a teaching qualification and understands the important aspects of how to train you professionally great, other than that I wouldn't like to build a reputation or a business for profit based on these learning techniques. Once again, things like this drive prices down in the industry as untrained people undercut the professionals. I could show you how to pull your tooth out successfully, but I'm positive a dentist would have something to say about my workmanship. Doh!

I agree! imagine the number of untrained "professionals" out there ruining peoples hair:(

LOL!! Yeah I think I will go on YouTube now and learn how to be a chiropractor and start offering the service. Haha! No but seriously you are right you need to go a qualified course to be able to get insurance for that method. If you have just learnt weave from a friend how did you get insurance?? And to tell people you can learn it by just looking is a bit unprofessional and puts our whole industry in shame and this forum and makes it seems like its easy and something that can be learnt in a day. Same with saying micro rings "looks easy"!! Yeah so does pulling a tooth out when you know what you're doing and are trained in it! Might take 5 minutes to do but 5 years to perfect!! There is a lot to applying micro rings and very different than fusion bonded. Yea you can put them in but likely is they will fall or slide off quicker than you can say "I should have got qualifications".

Sorry ladies - just to clarify.

I am fully insured for hair & Make up.
I trained with Racoon -who certified me about 10 years ago.

reading back, my weave reply was a bit brief, to explain, i grew up pretty much in my mother hair salon where weaves were done on a daily basis, at the time to my knowledge when i started there was no official certification for this process. When i responded to the other person regarding this i assumed i was talking to a hairdresser that already does hair extensions and was looking to to see how they were done - there are examples on utube for this, after watching that if you want to take it further then its up to you to find the course.

With regards to my original post, i was seeking advice as to the right route to take and for which brands to look out for as a number of people had said to me that with my existing training and experience there may be a way of fast tracking the training etc - and just some positive advice in general

I do not offer Micro rings at the moment and was simply after some helpful friendly advice and am mortified at the response i did not intend to offend everyone.

hi persianista,

Thank you for your help - the only reason i was looking into them was because i have had a break form doing the hair extensions since having a baby and thought i should keep up with new methods, given we are in a recession people might want a cheaper alternative. I started the thread in the hopes of a bit of advice really...

Look I really was not trying to offend anyone and perhaps you worded it wrong. But what I mean is that it is wrong to advice people to just look at someone and then think you are qualified to do it. Weaving might be easy after 10 years of practice but it is a tricky method to get completely right and to not cause damage. But I am sorry as obviously I did not know your full story and that you had had experience in your mums salon. Was not trying to offend you at all but there is so much problem in our industry with people trading without insurance and people getting one day courses or learning on youtube and then ruining clients hair.

But even though being trained in Racoon is really good it is entirely different than micro-rings and even though it might look easy it really is not always and very different than the Racoon method. I do get a lot of request for it and it is very popular and It is a good method to start doing. But the reason I reacted like I did is because you are qualified in one method does not mean you can do all. And even if it does look easy the insurance only covers the methods on your certificate so it is actually worth paying it in my opinion, maybe even if you think that you could master it (which you probably can with practice) you might not be covered. Persianista is right thought, for you as an experienced extensionist it would probably feel like waste of time and money but I really love short courses and courses in general to learn new techniques and tips and keep up with what is happening. Anyway, I just reacted to that and the fact you seemed to not have been trained in weaving either and was offering it so thought that was odd. But maybe I got that wrong too.

I am sorry for being hasty anyway and should have waited for the full story but it was just your first posts seemed a bit unprofessional when I read them.

Aww thanks :) I really get affected because I am the least confrontational person ever and not trying to be offensive but at the same time so many people in this industry make me angry and get to me because I've worked so hard for this all. But you should never judge too quickly I guess xx.

Morning,

Well im glad we have got all that cleared up. Moving on, the most recent post (the extensionist) is pretty much what i was expecting and it will no doubt do me good to swat up a bit on the science of it as well as the application.

I have been online researching for over a week now and am thinking about doing the training with lush us as its broader and covers micro rings, prebonding and shrink, so a bit more for your money, plus their hair ring has more selection on it which will be handy whilst i establish a relationship with other suppliers as i live quite rural now and cannot go and buy it myself.

I have seen that some dont like lush us, so without going over old ground about the quality of the hair, has anyone done any training with them?
Or could anyone recommend a short course?

with regard to the weave, whilst i love it in my hair, i find now days people want the bonds so i tend to only use it for shoots or music videos when i need hair in quickly and to stay put. Even thats at a push as there are quicker ways now days to apply temporarily hair.

I totally agree about the nonames type people coming in ad setting up with next to no training or experience. It was the same 15years ago when i started to do nail extensions, i remember charging £45 quid for a full set and this was with out art or a paint. now days in the same area they pay about £25. Its always gonna be the same, for any kind of media work there will always be someone willing to do it for nothing or expenses only just to get thier name involved, or for beauty there always someone just starting wanting to get a loads of clients under their belt who do it poorly for pennies. the only way to get on is to establish a good rep from the beginning and price as you mean to go on, its easier to put prices down that it is up so you have to be prepared to let the ones that want a bargain walk away in the hope that someone that can afford it and can recognise the quality or the workmanship will book you - regularly.

Micro Rings are popular and offer alteratives for your growing client lists! often clients research hair extensions and choose a method requesting micro rings.
