Nail art help

Just wondered what people use to stick glitters or rhinestones down. I have a glue but found on some polish it removed the polish and made a right mess. Would you use glue or tacky polish for glitter and would you pour glitter onto the nail or use a brush?

Are you asking for applying on normal varnish, Gel polish or acrylic/hard Gel etc?
