Anyone use the OPI gel polish? Just wondering do you etch the natural nails before application or not?

I remove the shine from nails with a 240 before application, I don't like the word 'etch'!

I just did the opi axxium conversion on Monday and was told to buff the nail lightly with a 180 but i am sure the 240 would be sufficient.
