Just to harp back to my c**p day yesterday again! Two clients wanted 'straight' smile lines - now I found this really hard to do cos on the FDFC we were taught how to do 'deep' curved smile lines which personally I find alot easier.

The first client only told me this after I'd already applied the tips to her nails, having done little 'wings' at the sides as taught on the course. Hence, when I applied the white l&p in a straight line I got ghastly shadowing through the pink when I applied that. I really couldn't possibly have not put the 'wings' on the tips though cos she was a terrible biter and had no free edge at all, so if I'd done the tips completely straight they would have come off before I'd got to the applying the product stage.

Anyway as I was prewarned with the second client, I tailored the end of the tips to be completely straight. But they still don't adhere to the natural nail very well as the nail itself is curved, so I ended up with a bizarre gap between the straight edge of the tip and the side of her natural nail - oohh so frustrating!!! Does anyone know what I'm talking about - I think I'm going insane, I dream about nails now, I need therapy...! So how do you do straight smile lines - please help me before I go bonkers trying to work out what I should have done!

In one Pip I don't Lol I tend to always curve my smiles. I have yet to see a natural free edge that goes straight across

 Some clients have some wierd requests. You learn with experience how to deal with these wierdos!!

If it was me Pip, I would not have changed the tips application, they are designed the way they are to fit the natural curve of the nail.

I know the customer is supposed to be right, but hey....that is not always the case. :) Unless you are using a really strong coloured pink you would not be able to hide the natural smile line and create a false one higher up, which would be needed, otherwise the white l&P would be down far to low and look awful, all this needed explaining to the client, obviously in better terms than, "eer, love, that's gonna look awful!"

Strange you had 2 people requesting the same thing, i've never had anyone ask for a straight smile, or should i say, grimace line. i wonder where they got the idea from?

lol may have been the local lap dancers!!!!

You two have really dirty minds!!! Just shows how naive I am then cos I thought it must be a normal request to ask for straight smile lines! I have to agree with you though, they looked really silly and totally unnatural. I did actually try to say to them that it was an odd thing to have cos the natural nail is curved, but they wouldn't listen so I did it anyway. At least that explains why I found it so blinkin hard to do!!

Next time I shall quote you lot and ask them if they actually WANT to look like porn stars!!!:)

When i did a set of demo nails at the salon i work in that was th thing i was critzed on my smiley smile lines.

I spent so long bugging geeg and Sam tryin to get them that way and when i did they didnt like them. i cant purposely do straight smile lines but used to do them by accident. you cant win whatver you do sometimes
